A Trip to the Grocery Store

I went to the grocery store yesterday, while I was shopping besides buying 7 packages of Grape Boogie Wipes which I am sure got some weird looks, what can I say? I love them and they were on closeout and Grape is my favorite. As I was walking through the frozen foods section I saw some stuff on a display. I stopped and looked to see what it was. It was a candy bouquet. It contained 8 normal sized candy bars in a ceramic pot. Guess how much they wanted for it? $14.99 before tax, as I am adding things up in my head I am talking to my mom about how over priced it is. You can get candy bars on sale for 3 for 99 cents and a cheap planter for like 4 bucks or less if you know where to look. So, I told my mom that I am going to open a candy bouquet business and charge 5 times as much as it would cost to make. I am aware they are only charging twice as much as it is actually worth. I mean you could make one yourself.

All you need is some candy bars and some wooden sticks and a pot, maybe get some tissue paper. Most people have tissue paper in their homes left over from gifts or if you shop at Victoria’s Secret like I do you have it all over the place. Just tape the candy to the sticks and Voila. Some companies charge like 50 dollars for 10 dollars worth of treats. How are they successful? Probably because the customer just doesn’t have the time or the motivation to make one themselves. So, what are your thoughts on this? Should I start my own candy bouquet business? I am sure people would buy from me, just think of the pet rock and what a hit that was.

Paas Easter Egg Kits Review

One of my favorite Easter traditions is dyeing Easter Eggs. This is the first year we did it. I thought that Noah was too young before to really understand before this year. I wanted him to enjoy it as much as I do. There are a million different egg dyeing kits out there. There are so many different brands and kit features, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose the right kit for your family. I have the opportunity to tell you about three new egg dyeing kits from Paas.

Photobucket

The first kit I want to tell you about is the Coloring Creations. The kit comes with crayons and stickers that you can color. It reminded me of a coloring book that you can stick on your dyed eggs. It also comes with a coloring page with two eggs on it that your child can color. It is a great activity when you are waiting for the eggs to cool or dry after you dye them. Noah loves to color and he had a lot of fun coloring the stickers and the egg coloring page. It would be perfect for the little artist in your family.

Photobucket

The next kit I want to tell you about is the Neon. It is a 3 in 1 kit that helps you make some really hip and fun Easter eggs. It comes with the traditional crayon that you can use to write on the eggs before you dye them. It has been a while since I have dyed Easter Eggs so I had to be reminded that you write on them before you dye them. This kit also comes with some really cool stickers that are neon. Noah’s favorites were no doubt the car and the truck. Another cool item in the Neon kit is glitter glue. You can really add some bling to your eggs. The dye that comes with it is neon colors to give your Easter Eggs a whole new look!

Photobucket

The last kit I want to tell you about is the Mini Monsters. You can turn your Easter eggs in to monsters. I think this one was our favorite kit. Noah loves monsters and pretending he is a monster. It comes with monster eyes and mouths in all shapes and sizes. There are some angry monsters, happy monsters and silly monsters too. They also come with pipe cleaners too to make the tails. This is such a fun kit. The best part of the kit I am saving for last, it comes with two bags of monster HAIR! We loved the monster hair. We took it out of the bag and played with it a little bit. It is so cool. Most monsters are not bald and the people at Paas knew that so they added some.

When we started Noah was already excited because he had been looking at the boxes and wanted to open the boxes as soon as I received them. I wasn’t too sure how involved Noah would want to be in the process. I measured out the vinegar and he added all of the dye tablets to each of the bowls. He really enjoyed watching the colors appear in front of his eyes. He did most of the dyeing of the eggs. I showed him how to use the egg dipper to move the eggs around to help with the dye. He did a great job. He even put the eggs in the dye. We put down newspaper because I know just how messy things can get and there was barely any dye on the newspaper. Noah laughed and had so much fun and so did I.

We really enjoyed the three new Easter Egg Kits from Paas. I hope you check them out for your Easter Eggs this year and even next. I know we will be definitely look for them again next year. It was so much fun to share this experience with Noah.

To check out these kits and all the other wonderful Paas products please visit HERE

Thank you so much to Paas for providing us with a few boxes of Easter Egg Kits to try out.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Easter.

Ribbon is NOT Vacuum Friendly

I like to scrapbook and make cards, so naturally I own an insane amount of ribbon. I have ribbon in all colors, designs, and textures. I used to take part in online exchanges and crops and the host would send the winners prizes. It was fun. I haven’t scrapbooked in a coon’s age. Well, one of the prizes I received from an online crop was some sheer white ribbon, it was almost see-through. I sometimes do crafts in my room, even though I do have a scrapbook room.

I was cleaning one day and I was in the process of vacuuming, all the sudden my vacuum started smelling really bad and it stopped working. When I looked at what was caught in it, I saw that white sheer ribbon in the brushes. Ribbon is not vacuum friendly. It killed the vacuum cleaner, may it rest in peace. It also ruined my ribbon. I wish I would have seen it.

My other vacuum is junky too. It stinks when I use it. I had two Yankee Candle Macintosh Jar candles lit in my room and it smelled good until I vacuumed and oh man it stunk. Needless to say, I have bad luck with vacuums and there wasn’t a ribbon in sight. I really need to buy a new one, I have my eye on the Miele vacuum cleaner. I really hope my vacuum curse ends with this one.

How to Roast Garlic

I love Garlic. I have been proclaimed the Garlic Queen. We went to Garlic Fest in 2008, in Delray Beach. Noah is a graduate of Garlic University. He has a diploma and all. I love Garlic in every way shape and form. Noah loves garlic too. I definitely prefer fresh garlic and not the kind that comes in a jar. I love roasted garlic. I know some people like it on crackers; I prefer it on Cheddar Pringles. When you go to a restaurant you can pay like 5 or 6 dollars for a head of roasted garlic and some bread or crackers. It is really easy to make. I thought I would do a post on How to Roast Garlic.

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

Step 2: Cut the tops off the head of garlic making sure all of the cloves are exposed. You might have to do a little grooming for the ones that don’t get exposed during the initial cut.

Step 3: Get a piece of aluminum foil (big enough to wrap the head of garlic) and place the garlic on it. Drizzle the exposed cloves with Olive Oil and wrap tightly. I think the pull up and twist method works the best.

Step 4: place in a little pan or loaf pan incase of leakage and put in the oven for 45 minutes.

Step 5: Let cool a little and remove the cloves and enjoy.

Now for some hints:

Tight heads work the best.

Don’t break or remove the skin of the garlic before roasting.

To help the garlic cool faster unwrap the aluminum foil.

One head of Garlic can feed two people maybe more depending on how much you love garlic. I usually eat one by myself.

See how easy it is? Now you can have roasted garlic anytime you want.

Flash Mobbing for Haiti

There was such a horrible tragedy that happened in Haiti. The earthquake killed many and left even more people homeless. I am sure you have heard of many different ways to help like text messaging and just plain donating. Helping those who are in need is such a wonderful thing; I have major respect for those that took time to donate to Haiti. I am sure you remember my post about Oscar Meyer and Flash Mob America. Well Flash Mob America, has done it again, this time they danced for Haiti! 100% of the donations went to Yele Haiti's Earthquake Relief Fund.

Flash Mob America gets a group of people together in LA and they all dance for causes and for other events. They surprise LA with the Flash Mobs. It looks really cool. I wish I could have been there to dance with them, but I can’t dance and I don’t live in LA. It looks like a lot of fun. Maybe those who live in LA can dance in the next one. They had rehearsals and even a Henna tattoo artist before the event. They also raised a lot of money for Haiti.

Here is the video for you to check out. It looks like a blast don’t you think?

They raised over $3,000 for Haiti and the Yele Haiti's Earthquake Relief Fund during the event through the dancers having people sponsor them for donations. It is such a blessing that all of these people took the time to put on this event and we can’t forget those who donated. The Flash Mobbers helped brighten the day of the people of LA and of course those suffering in Haiti.

For more information on Flash Mob America please visit HERE.

You can donate to the Yele Haiti’s Earthquake Relief Fund by visiting their website.

Thank You Julie @itsallnew2me

I wanted to take a moment to thank one of my readers who also follows me on Twitter. I often tweet about how much Noah loves Max and Ruby. She told me about Max and Ruby stuffed animals and how she found them at her grocery store. I had found them on Amazon but they wanted $7.99 for them plus shipping. I was going to pay for Max since Noah loves him but she alerted me to check the grocery store and where to find him.

I went to the TY website and found out where they sold their products and sure enough they sold them at a grocery store nearby. I went there on Saturday and my heart sang when I went to the floral department and saw Max staring at me. I quickly snatched him up and went to the check out, I paid $5.34 for him including tax. I know that Noah will be really excited to find Max in his Easter basket. So, thank you so much Julie. You are awesome! She also shared with me some really cute Max and Ruby fabric prints.

Thanks again Julie! You helped bring a smile to Noah’s face! I can't wait to give him Max.
Everyone should follow Julie on Twitter @itsallnew2me

Vitalicious VitaTops Review and Giveaway

Photobucket
As I have mentioned before we like to eat muffins in our house. Noah loves them. They are a great and healthy snack for him to enjoy. They are healthier than cupcakes. I am not saying I do not love cupcakes because you all know I do a lot. As a mom though I can’t let my son sit around and eat cupcakes all the time for a couple reasons; they are full of sugar and he would eat all my cupcakes. Noah’s first muffin experience was when we were at the grocery store and they had samples and I gave him one and he loved it. Ever since he has been a muffin hound, so when I had the opportunity to try out some Vitalicious Muffins I was really excited. Vitalicious makes Vita Muffins, VitaTops, Vitabrownies, Vitacake, and even VitaCoffee. All the Vitalicious products are 100 calories, 4 to 7 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein and are low fat. They are preservative free too. They can last in the freezer for 8 to 10 months, and it is important they you freeze them right away so they stay fresh.

Photobucket

When we received our samples of the VitaTops; I was amazed there were so many flavors for us to try. Immediately they had to go in the freezer, because they contain no preservatives. Of course as soon as they arrived we had to try a couple. We were amazed at how good they were. I had a feeling they were going to be good but they were delicious. We both washed them down with milk. Our favorite flavor is the Deep Chocolate. Did I mention they are only 100 calories? If you are on a diet these Vitalicious Muffin Tops will satisfy your hunger without jeopardizing your hard work and blow your diet. They are only 1 point on Weight Watchers too. Not to mention the fact that they are actually good for you. You can eat the dark chocolate and also satisfy your sweet tooth. It’s a win win product. Here is the nutrition information for the Dark Chocolate Vitatop: All Natural 2 oz. Deep Chocolate VitaTops with real cocoa, chocolate chips & organic sugar. Each muffin top contains 100 calories, 1.5g fat, 6g fiber & 3g protein. Noah loved them too. He thought they were a special treat. I didn’t tell him that they were good for him, it’s our little secret.

You should try out some Vitalicious Vitatops and see for yourself how delicious they really are, remember you don’t have to tell your kids that they are healthy that can be just between us moms. I won’t tell if you won’t tell.

Thank You Berry Much Girl Scout Cookie Review

Photobucket
It’s Girl Scout Cookie Time. I love Girl Scout cookies so much. When I was younger I was a Daisy, A Brownie and a Jr. Girl Scout. I had so much fun. The Girl Scouts is an amazing program for young girls. I have many fond memories of scout meetings and going to camp a few times. It was so inspiring. I love all of the morals and values you learn in Girl Scouts. When I was in Daisies, my troop made place mats for our families for Christmas. I still have the place mats that I made and they still go on the table at Christmas time every year. I still remember the Girl Scout Pledge and all of the songs. My favorite one is: There’s something in my pocket and It belongs across my face, I keep it very close to me in the most convenient place. I am sure you’ll never guess it if you guess a long long while. So, I’ll take it out and put it on it’s a great big Brownie smile.

My favorite Girl Scout cookies are Thin Mints and Tagalongs, although they are all pretty good. So when I had the opportunity to try the newest flavor of Girl Scout Cookies back in November. I was excited. The newest flavor of Girl Scout cookies is called Thank You Berry Much. They have cranberries and white chocolate chips in them. Noah loved them. The box was eaten very quickly. I only got a couple cookies out of the box. Noah gobbled them up and they were his snack when we had them. He didn’t pick anything else for his sweet treat. I let him pick what he wants for snacks and it was always cookies. They were a huge hit here. My three year old loves them. I like how the Girl Scouts come up with new cookie flavors.

Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone sells Girl Scout cookies in my neighborhood because they never come around. I used to love selling them door to door and seeing what everyone picked and then watching the customer smile when their cookies arrived. Thankfully they sell them outside some stores here and in the front of stores. I remember doing that as well when I was a Brownie.

The Girl Scouts use the proceeds from cookie sales to fund things for their troops and to go to Girl Scout camp. After my years as a Girl Scout going to camp was a lot of fun and I will remember it for the rest of my life. I was talking about an experience I had at Girl Scout camp with one of my friends the other day. Girl Scout Camp was definitely a worthwhile experience. I highly recommend nurturing your daughter’s desire to be a Girl Scout. You also get lots of delicious cookies.

For more information please visit The Girl Scouts of Nassau County or your local Girl Scouts chapter.

Thank you so much to The Girl Scouts of Nassau County for sending me some delicious Thank You Berry Much cookies for my family to enjoy.

Don't forget to pick up something for the food pantry

Tonight I was watching The 700 Club. I love watching it. I have been watching it for four years now. I think Pat,Terry, Gordon and Kristy are awesome. My mom has seen the show many times because she went to Law School at Regent University which is the college that the show is filmed and where Pat Robertson is president and founder of. Tonight they had on Stephanie Nelson aka Coupon Mom who is an author of a really cool book called The Coupon Mom's Guide to Cutting Your Grocery Bills in Half: The Strategic Shopping Method Proven to Slash Food and Drugstore Costs that teaches people about using coupons and saving money. We all know how much I love coupons. Terry and Stephanie talked about how if everyone in the country donated a food item that they got with a coupon for free to a food pantry it would fill the food pantries up. Food pantries are really hurting right now with all the people out of work and without the means to feed their families.

You guys know how passionate I am about feeding the hungry. I challenge you all to get something extra and donate it. It doesn’t have to be caviar or escargot, just something nonperishable. Perhaps a few boxes of macaroni and cheese or something like that. If you have a coupon that would be great but just something to help someone else would make a world of difference. If we all do our part than it will move mountains and fill so many hungry mouths and stomachs. So, when you are at the store think of those who go without. It doesn’t take much effort to help.

You all should check out my friend Mommy Niri’s post about Joining her in the fight against child hunger. It is amazing. Mommy Niri is such a great person. I hope you all visit her blog and read about fighting child hunger with Con Agra and decide to participate.

Another really cool thing I heard about during Wheel of Fortune. When a contestant wins the bonus round, Maxwell House will donate $2,500 to a charity that feeds the hungry. I think that is awesome although I would like to see it donated each time someone goes to the bonus round personally. There are so many wonderful companies out there that love to help and I learn about them more each day.

There are so many people out there that need your help.

Sweet Isabelle

This was a letter I wrote on January 21, 2010. I guess I deleted it and didn’t empty my recycling bin and I forgot about it. I decided I wanted to share it with you because it was intended to be a blog post but It was such an emotional day.
Photobucket
Dear Isabelle,
Today is your sixth birthday, and I miss you so much. I hate that you were taken away from me. I only got to see you once on my ultrasound and you were already gone. I still cry for you since you cannot. I miss you and I think about you every day. I wonder what you would have looked like. What you would like to do? I feel like a part of me is missing. I know you are looking down on me and I just wish I had the chance to hold you in my arms and to sing to you. I wish you could be with me and your brother Noah. I wish my pain would go away but it hasn’t really gone anywhere. It is easier to cope with it. I have learned to tolerate it. I can’t believe it has been so long since I lost you. It seems like just yesterday. I dream about you and the day I lost you. I love you Isabelle Rose. Noah loves you too. You would have loved him. He is the sweetest little boy.

I still feel extremely guilty about what happened. I hate that I couldn’t do anything about it. I couldn’t have stopped it, I know that. It just makes me all so sad. If only I would have known that my body was messed up. I would have fixed it. I wish I would have prayed more. I hate your dad for praying for this. I am still heartbroken and there is emptiness. I was left with empty arms. I took so much crap from losing you. I was told to get over it, that I deserved it and many other heartbreaking cruel things. I had the housekeeper at the hospital ask me if I had my baby yet. I told her that my baby died. The housekeeper ignored the sign on my door. She didn’t know but it broke my heart.

I spent the day in the hospital pretty much in a daze. It seemed like a horrible dream that I couldn’t wake up from. I lost a lot of blood and I was weak. They had to stop and hope they got everything. I remember your family was discussing their blood types because I was probably going to need a blood transfusion. I ended up not needing it. You weren’t going to come out on your own. My body still thought I was pregnant. I just wanted to crawl in bed and be alone. I didn’t want anyone to see me like that. I was a mess. The day I came home from the hospital I went in to my bed and cried all day and night. I did that for a long time.

I felt like my soul had left me. I was so alone. I felt like no one understood. I was surrounded by many people but I felt so alone. The emptiness ate at me. It wasn’t like I didn’t know about you. I was so excited. I had already started buying you clothes. I came home and your stuff was hidden, it was all out because I was looking through it the night before I went to the hospital. I remember lying there looking at you on the monitor. I felt pure joy until they told me you didn’t have a heartbeat then I felt the worst sorrow and pain I had ever felt. I was so upset I couldn’t see I just wanted to vomit over and over. Your dad yelled at the doctor and threatened to hurt him. The ER doctor was cold which I am sure he had to learn to numb his pain. The only thing I had to remember you was a picture of you and you had already passed away and a little gold ring that I wore around my neck for 3 years straight. I still have your giraffe and I still play the music and hold it and think of you and cry. I miss you and love you little Isabelle Rose.
Love,
Mommy.

Nation Napping Day Protect-A-Bed Giveaway

Photobucket
You can call it what you want, a nap, a siesta, a little snooze, a cat nap, or a nip nap. I love to take naps. Now that I am a mom I don’t take nearly as many naps as I used to. During my son’s daily naps I am usually doing some kind of work or watching something that includes a judge and not cartoon characters. It is a time for me to get things done. I try and occasionally take a little nap but it usually ends up not going as planned.

Today March 15, 2010 is National Napping Day. I don’t think they could pick a better day for this. It’s the first day after Daylight Savings started and we all lost an hour. Our internal clocks were messed with and we are all feeling it. I am definitely going to cuddle up with my son today and take a nap or take one myself during naptime. Everyone should take a nap every now and then. It is refreshing and it can be a mood lifter.

Photobucket
Protect-A-Bed offers consumers a complete line of protective bedding products to create a Healthy Sleep Zone. The unique technology featured in Protect-A-Bed’s mattress and pillow protectors was developed in South Africa in 1980 before the company was officially established in the United States in 2000. Now selling in 27 countries, Protect-A-Bed is a worldwide leader in mattress protection innovation. The company developed the proprietary Miracle Membrane and patented Bug Lock and Secure Seal, which help create a dry, bed bug free, anti-allergy sleep zone for people of all ages.

However, those who nap the best understand a sleeping place needs protection from allergens and dust mites. After all, waking from a nap with the sniffles is no way to wake up at all.

Research shows 10 percent of the general public and as many as 90 percent of people with allergic asthma (depending on the study you read) have an allergy to dust mites. And, dust mites love spoiling our napping refuge, taking up residence in mattresses and pillows. In fact, as many as two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress.

Besides dust mites, it’s not unusual for other allergy triggers like pollen and pet dander to become trapped within mattresses. By using a mattress protector, allergy sufferers can create an impermeable barrier between themselves and the allergens within their bed. By coupling mattress protection with pillow protectors that seal allergens within pillows, people can create a virtually allergy-free nap space.

On Monday only, Protect-A-Bed will be hosting a Twitter contest where they will be giving away sets of Premium Pillow Protectors to those who share the funniest place they’ve ever taken a nap. To enter, follow @Protect_A_Bed on Twitter and use the hashtag #nappingday to share your funniest or strangest nap location.
So today, harness the creative power that comes from napping, and embrace your inner Da Vinci. And remember, the art of napping needs a canvas, and that canvas comes from Protect-A-Bed.

Thank you to Protect-A-Bed for sending me a Queen Size Protect-A-Bed Premium Mattress Cover and providing one to giveaway.

I have a giveaway for you. One lucky reader is going to win their own Queen Size Protect-A-Bed Premium Mattress Cover (retail value $79.99)

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Duncan Hines

It is almost St. Patrick’s Day, growing up we celebrated it with wearing green so I wouldn’t get pinched at school. We also received a small little treat because I am extremely Irish. I remember looking for rainbows on St. Patrick’s Day and looking for pots of gold when I was little. I am Irish from both sides of my family. My mom’s parents are both of Irish decent. My Grandma Rose’s family came over from Ireland on a ship called the Spotted Cow.

On my dad’s side is where I get most of my Irish heritage. My Grandpa Bill was born in Ireland and all his family is from Ireland. My dad was also born in Ireland. So, I am more Irish than I am anything else. I am first generation American. I am the second person in my dad’s entire family to be born in America with my sister being the first. So, to me St. Patrick’s Day is not just an excuse to get drunk but it reminds me of my heritage and family.

I thought it would be fun to share some recipes for some delicious St. Patrick’s Day treats from Duncan Hines with you guys. You all know how much Noah and I like to cook. I have two recipes to share with you that Duncan Hines has developed in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The recipes are Leprechaun Key Lime Cake and Clover Patch Brownies.

1. Bake brownies according to instructions on box. Remove from oven and let cool. Cut brownies into squares.
2. Meanwhile, knead green food coloring into marzipan or fondant until desired shade of green is achieved.
3. Form small (1-inch) 3-leaf and 4-leaf clover shapes out of fondant or marzipan. Be realistic and make a lot more 3-leaf clovers than 4-leaf clovers.
4. Stick clover shapes on top of green toothpicks.
5. Insert little bunches of clovers onto each brownie.

Duncan Hines is available in your local store's baking aisle.

I hope you try out one or both of these recipes with your little leprechauns. It will definitely add some Irish fun to your day and maybe bring you some good luck too. I wish everyone a Happy and Safe St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget to wear green or you might be pinched by a mischievous little leprechaun.

Thank you to Duncan Hines for providing me with a couple mixes to try out these recipes with my son.

Boogie Wipes are not just for kids

Photobucket
One of my guy friends texted me and told me that he is sick. I asked him what was wrong? He told me he hates his nose. I texted him back and said Here is a mom tip. Go spend 3 or 4 dollars on a package of Boogie Wipes. He asked me what it is and I explained them to him and told him about how they have saline and how saline breaks up mucus. He sounds interested. I told him how awesome they are. I use them and so does Noah. I actually use the more than Noah does.

So, I want to remind everyone that Boogie Wipes are not just for kids. Adults can use them too. You don't have to have kids to use them, You just have to have a nose. Most people have one so, get some Boogie Wipes. Grape is still my favorite scent. I haven't used a tissue since I first used Boogie Wipes and never will again. They give me the creeps. Especially when you have your nose drippings not stick on the tissue. This is still a product I really believe in and I still think everyone should use them.

PS. When you text the word boogers it is the same letters in congress. I kept trying to type it with the T9 on and it kept putting congress.

This post is written by me because I love Boogie Wipes and wanted to share with you all how much I still love them.

MOTHERHOOD DVD Review and Giveaway- 2 winners

Photobucket
As you all know, I love to watch movies. Some of my favorites are ones that I can relate to. I think they should make more movies about being a mom. There are some great ones but I have a new one to throw in the mix. It’s called MOTHERHOOD. Raising kids is never easy. Eliza Welsh (Uma Thurman), a stay-at-home mom of two, finds this out first hand on a seemingly endless day when she must plan her daughter’s birthday party, deal with her scatterbrained husband (Anthony Edwards), saver her car from being towed, and write an essay for a parenting magazine before the approaching dead line. That’s motherhood.

Eliza Welch (Thurman) is a former fiction writer-turned-mom-blogger with her own site, “The Bjorn Identity”. Putting her deeper creative ambitions on hold to raise her two children, Eliza lives and works in two rent-stabilized apartments in a walk-up tenement building smack in the middle of an otherwise upscale Greenwich Village. Eliza’s good-natured but absent-minded husband (Edwards) seems tuned out to his wife’s conflicts, not to mention basic domestic reality, while her best friend Sheila (Minnie Driver) understands this – and Eliza -- all too well.

I thought MOTHERHOOD was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing. I could totally relate to some of the things that Eliza goes through. I am sure most moms can relate to this movie and would highly enjoy it. It would be a great movie to watch with your other mom friends on a Girl’s Night Out. You could swap your own motherhood stories. I know I have some doozies.

I will share one of them with you guys. My cousin was visiting with her kids when Noah was about 4 months old and he had a dirty diaper. I went to go change it and I noticed that he wasn’t quite finished going to the bathroom so, I closed up his diaper and waited for him to finish. After I changed him, I came back out with Noah to spend some more time with my family. I was sitting there and I ran my finger through my hair, which is something I do often and noticed I had something in my hair, I thought it was spit up. I was wrong. I had Noah’s poop in my hair. My cousin’s kids thought it was hilarious. They even called their dad and told him about it. I’m telling you Motherhood is definitely not easy!

VeggieTales: Pistachio Review and Giveaway- 2 Winners

Photobucket

I used to teach Sunday school and I would do some occasional babysitting during the week. Most of the time when I would babysit during the church events, we would watch a video, this was back when VCR’s were still big. We would always watch a VeggieTales tape. I enjoyed watching it with the kids back then and I decided when I became a mom that I wanted my child to watch VeggieTales too. I really like the characters, stories and messages. I also think they do a great job of holding a child’s attention. Watching Christian based DVD’s with my son is important to me. We have another series we really like to watch too. So, when I had the opportunity to review the newest VeggieTales DVD Pistachio, I was really excited. I only had one VeggieTales DVD that I had bought online.

Check out the Trailer for Pistachio here

VeggieTales is made by Big Idea Entertainment. It stars all kinds of fun vegetables. There is Larry who is a cucumber and Bob who is a tomato to name a couple. All of the stories are made to teach you a lesson and it also uses Christian values and morals to help the Veggies learn about right and wrong. They sing the cutest songs too. My favorite VeggieTales song is God is bigger than the boogie man. The songs are catchy and they get stuck in your head really easily. They are so much fun to dance to and sing along.

When I received the DVD, I couldn’t wait to watch it with Noah. He really enjoyed watching it. He talked about the different veggies. He loves to name things he sees. Pistachio really gauged his interest and he thought it was hilarious. At one point he was laughing so hard I thought he was going cry. His laughter was deep belly laughs and I could tell he really likes it. He liked it so much that he asked to watch it again. He only asks to watch something again if he thought it was good. Of course I couldn’t resist his little please can I? Can I? Can I? Mommy please? I hope you all check it out with your little VeggieTales fan. It is a great movie that all ages will enjoy. I thought it was adorable and really liked it.

For more information and to order please visit Big Idea Entertainment’s Website. You can also find Pistachio at a store near you.

Thank you to Big Idea Entertainment for providing me with a complimentary copy of Pistachio for my family to review and providing the giveaway prizes.

I have a giveaway for you. Two (2) lucky readers are going to win a copy of the Pistachio DVD.

Mandatory entry: Please visit Big Idea Entertainment's website and tell me another VeggieTales DVD you would like to purchase.

Fandangling Review and Giveaway

Photobucket

One thing parents buy when they are awaiting their new bundle of joy is a crib mobile. Most babies like to stare up at it and watch it go around. It is mesmerizing to them. The only bad thing about a traditional mobile is when your baby can pull themselves up; you have to take the mobile down. It becomes a safety hazard. Noah had an adorable little duck mobile that he would love to watch but when he got old enough the ducks had to come down. It was kind of sad for me because he had loved it since birth. Anne Zacharias, a mother of two came up with a brilliant idea, a mobile you attach to a ceiling fan named Fandangling. You don’t have to take mobile away anymore. Older children can also have mobiles in their rooms. They are really cool and can be soothing for a toddler.

Noah has a sea creature theme in his room. His room is painted light blue that matches his Sea Creature border perfectly. He has pictures of sea creatures and a sea creature quilt on his wall. His room is really cute so when I had the opportunity to try out a Fandangling mobile I was really happy to see that they had one called Underwater Adventure – Blue that has little stuffed dolphins and turtles.

The day we received the Underwater Adventure – Blue Fandangling, Noah wanted to play with it. He thought they were his newest stuffed toys. I tried to explain to him that they are for his ceiling fan. He didn’t totally get it until he saw it in motion. Noah loves his new dolphins and turtles. He watches them go round and says round and round, round and round. He definitely thinks it is really cool. He doesn’t remember his crib mobile of course and he loves to watch things spin. He will turn on his ceiling fan in the middle of the night to watch it go around. We occasionally make the light in the dining room spin around and so Fandangling is perfect. I hope you check out Fandangling’s website and order some of the cutest ceiling fan mobiles for your little bundles of joy.

Fandangling also donates 10% to multiple charities some of them are Animal Friends, ACEP and Build. I love this statement on their website: At Fandangling, We believe that Giving Back can truly make a difference in people’s lives.
I also have a coupon code to share with you guys. The coupon code is worth 20% off. The code is FANDANGLING10.

Thank you to Fandangling for sending me a complimentary mobile for my son to try out and providing one for the giveaway.

I have a giveaway for you. One (1) reader will win a Fandangling mobile of their choice.

Exclusive Interview with Darwin Misha Reedy from American Idol

I thought it would be fun to interview my friend Darwin Misha Reedy. She tried out on American Idol in Seattle for Season 6. She seemed like a really nice person during her audition and I didn’t like what Simon said to her. I think because she is different than the typical American Idol contestant they didn’t want to give her a chance. I became her friend on Myspace and she is such a sweet person. She is so much fun to talk to and she is very caring and nice. I have so much respect for her because she actually went after her dreams of trying out for American Idol. I would be way too nervous and scared. I wanted to share her with all my readers because she is awesome.
Her responses are in bold.

Do you prefer to go by Darwin or Misha? Darwin.

What made you decide to try out for American Idol? I have always been a fan of the show, and my passion is to be a professional singer.

What is going on with your music now days? I'm still a singer and songwriter, but I'm unsigned.

Do you have any links of videos that you have done that people can check out? I have a youtube video, but I'm updating with a new video soon. People can click on the link and subscribe to my youtube channel. www.youtube.com/DarwinMishaReedy

I know you change your hair color often which do you prefer? Black or Blond? Right now, blue-black.

Did you ever finish your Novella that you are writing with your mom? If, so is it going to be published? The Curse of Murmuring Brooks is completed. We are considering setting up a website where fans at a low-price download the novella. I will have a link to it on my myspace page.

I know your mom Sherry is your number one fan, how is she doing? She thanks you for asking. She recently fell and injured her knee, but it is getting better. She is working on her own projects, including sci-fi stories, and is working hard as my manager to promote my career.

Do people recognize you from your audition? In Houston the fans are not as open as in Seattle. They will take your picture in a club or once in a while wave from a car, but no-one approaches you. Seattle fans come up to you, make the rock and roll sign or smile at you. People still recognize me.

What is your favorite memory from the audition? Ryan Seacrest's friendliness and support just before I went into the audition.

Did you meet anyone that you became friends with? Shymalai, her brother Sanjaya and their family the most.

What was Simon really like? Simon was the nicest judge, laidback and witty. He was interested in my writing and encouraged me to do something with it.

Would you audition again if there wasn't an age limit? No, but I possibly would be interested in The X-Factor.

Are you more driven to prove to Simon, Randy and Paula that you can make it? No. I am driven by my own desire for excellence and success. I have my own reasons.

What kind of music do you like to listen to? I enjoy all music genres, but I listed mostly to rock, alternative and rap.

Are you dating anyone? Not at the moment.

Is there anything else you would like to share with my readers? Special thanks to the fans. My email address is www.myspace.com/darwinreedy. You can also contact me at idolgirl01@yahoo.com. If any of you have any ideas or connections to help me get my music and writing out there, please let me know. Thanks also to Sheila for posting in her blog. Hey, Sheila! Please say hello to your beautiful son Noah.

Thank you Darwin for taking time out of your schedule to answer my questions.

Happy Half Birthday Noah

Today is my baby's half birthday. Half birthday's are kind of a big deal in my house. When I was little I would get a present on my half birthday usually the day before or after since My half birthday is Feb. 29th and that is Leap Day. My sister got a present on her half birthday too. That is how we did it. I decided we would get Angel Food Cake to celebrate. I love Angel Food Cake and it was my Grandma Rose's favorite cake and she always had some whenever I would visit. Even if I didn't tell her I was coming. She always knew.

Another reason we are having Angel Food Cake is because it was the first food Noah fed to me when he was really small. It was the sweetest thing that he would share with me. He had two pieces of cake tonight. I asked if I could have some and he shoved what he had left in his mouth. Noah is getting so old so fast. Time is flying by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday I found out that I was going to have him. He is such a bundle of love and kisses and joy. I treasure every moment with him.

He also got a haircut today. My mom took him and when he got home he said "Mommy I look so handsome. I look so handsome Mommy" I agreed. He does look really handsome. We also played outside and he played baseball and rode his big wheel. I r was so much fun.

So, Happy Half Birthday Noah. I love you so much.

I went to Wal-mart

Tonight, I went to Wal-mart. I thought it would be like any other of my many Wal-mart trips I had been on before. I was wrong. Nothing terrible happened but, it could have been really scary. I was shopping with Noah and we were getting ready to head to the check out. I observed a little girl who was no more than 5 if that, running around the store yelling Mommy? Mommy? I started to carefully watch her and see what she was doing. After a few minutes of waiting to see if she was claimed by a grownup I started following her. I was so scared that something would happen to her. I noticed no one was stopping her and asking any questions. After pretty much chasing her with my shopping cart and Noah in the cart. I asked her where is your mommy honey? She responded Chicago. I asked her where is the grown up that was with her? I didn’t understand what she said so I told her to show me.

Well after about 10 or so minutes she found the grown up she was with, who by the way was shopping like it was no big deal that she had no idea where the child was. She wasn’t even looking for her. I kept thinking what if I didn’t follow her? What if I didn’t ask her? Someone could of taken that little girl and been long gone by the time “grandma” would of known the child was gone. I couldn’t find any employees around either. I was half tempted to call 911. It all thankfully worked out, and she found her grandma and hopefully she will keep an eye on her during the rest of their shopping trip and every other trip they take.

Keep an eye on your kids; especially your young kids at the store. If you see a young child without an adult or looking for their parent, please stop whatever you are doing and help the child get back to them safely. I know it might be a nuisance but it is worth it. You could even save that child’s life.

I was an Orphan in Annie.

After two really fun conversations with my friend Victoria I was inspired to do this. One thing you have to know about Victoria is she is awesome. She always makes me laugh a lot and I know she will brighten my day. During our conversation she was reading my blog while we were on the phone. She read my post about acting and singing and said you were in an off Broadway version of Annie? I said yes. Victoria was also in the musical Annie. We were both orphans. She was the nameless one and I can’t remember what the name is of any of my characters were. She told me about how the table broke during the cast photo and we swapped Annie stories.

Then we started talking about the music. We were actually singing Annie songs together. We sang NYC, Easy Street, Thank you Herbert Hoover etc. NYC is probably my favorite Annie song. At one point later in our conversation we were talking about something else and Victoria made the comment of something like things will get better tomorrow. I started singing Tomorrow. We are dorks but we have fun doing it. We decided to start a new Facebook group called I was an orphan in Annie. I am sure there are millions of us out there.

We both decided we liked the song Little Girls too. I was up really late singing Annie songs. I am surprised my son didn’t wake up and cry because I was pretty loud. So, this morning I decided to sing some karaoke in honor of our orphan days. So, Victoria this is for you and all those Annie orphans out there.

Little girls - Vote for my rendition!
There is no reason to vote cause i didn't want votes. Also I want to point out that I am singing it like Miss Hannagain would

Unknown Dangers of YouTube

Almost everybody has heard of YouTube. Even kids have gone to YouTube and looked at videos. I know this first hand because I have observed them doing it. Not my son of course he is way too young to figure out what it is. There are a lot of disturbing things on there. I started thinking about the Gummy Bear video I was forced to watch 50 times in a row this summer and since I am bored I went to YouTube like I had done a million times before and proceeded to watch it. The video is kind of silly with a Gummy Bear singing with its little booty hanging out a little at the top. OK no big deal I guess. I made it half way through the song and I got annoyed really quickly. Then I remembered about the Hampster Dance phase and listening to Crazy Frog with an old friend and her kids. I thought I hadn’t heard The Hampster Dance in a coon’s age so I was like what the heck. So I searched it on You Tube and I was disgusted by what I saw.

Parents, please be sure you are 100% aware of what your children are watching and doing on the internet. Parental controls are great but there will be stuff that slips through the cracks. You could be like oh Junior looked at The Hampster Dance on YouTube, no big deal.

I typed in the words Hampster Dance in YouTube’s search and the THIRD video on the first page is a video of a man in his 20’s or 30’s wearing a fanny pack dancing to Techno Music. He gets naked. You can’t see any actual parts but you can see it wiggling through his underwear. They do close ups on this too. Then he gets completely naked, well he is wearing just a fanny pack and watches a real hamster dance. I repeat this is the third video listed from the top on the first page for hamster dance.

So, please be fully aware of what your children, grandchildren etc, are looking at by supervising them at all times. If you think that they will get on the computer while you sleep, password protect it and hide the cords and the keyboards. The internet can be a very scary place for children and teens.

What I have learned from Dollar Stores

I love shopping at dollar stores. Everything is a dollar or under. No need to check price tags or ask how much something is. It’s really easy to go crazy in them though. I have been known to come out with 13 rolls of double sided tape or other random items that they sell. They always seem to have that hard to find candy like Now and Laters or Ring Pops. Throughout my many years of dollar store shopping I have learned some things I thought I would share with you all.

1. Just because it is a dollar doesn’t mean you have to buy it just to buy it. I have stopped doing that now. I used to find things I thought I would want and then never ended up using like picture frames.

2. Everything looks so much cooler in the dollar store. I think it is the lighting but once you purchase something and get it home or out in the sun it loses it’s wow appeal and you realize that wasn’t as cool as you thought.

3. You can find some really cute stuff sometimes at the dollar store. When Noah was born or heck I might have been pregnant with him I went to the dollar store and bought a package of plastic squeaky whales. They are some of Noah’s favorite toys. I have many pictures of him when he was a baby chewing on them. I wish I would of bought more.

4. The merchandise is always changing and varies from location to location. If you go and look for something and find it, it might be a good idea to get it while it’s there.

5. Just because it claims to be a dollar store, that might not be the case at all. There are stores out there that say they are dollar stores like Deals but not everything is a dollar. I classify stores like Deals, Dollar General and Family Dollar as discount stores. So, be careful when you go in to a store that claims to be a dollar store. It’s better to get clarification and know what you are getting in to. I didn’t do that the first time I went in to Deals and I looked like an idiot. So, I am saving you my disgrace.

6. This is the most important one of all. All dollar stores smell the same. They have their own Dollar Store odor. It is as if it is pumped in through the vents like an air freshener. It stinks. It doesn’t matter how old the store is, it can be the store’s grand opening and it still smells that way. It doesn’t matter if they are a Dollar Tree, a Dollar palace or a Mom and Pop locally owned Dollar store. It doesn’t matter where it is, even in other states dollar stores stink. Even the ones in malls. I have no idea why that is. It’s weird. I could be blindfolded and have on ear muffs and I would still know if I were in a dollar store.

I hope my post about what I have learned from Dollar stores will help you on the next trip you take to one. I think I will start wearing nose plugs because the smell gives me a headache. I remember my old best friend and I would go to the dollar store all the time and before we went in we would take a big breath of fresh air. If you have any other dollar store tips I would love to hear them so leave me a comment!

Strangers with Candy

Photobucket
One of my favorite shows is Strangers With Candy. It used to be on Comedy Central in 1999 to 2002. I would stay up late just to watch it. It was hilarious. I have all three seasons on DVD and I have the movie too. I still enjoy watching it. I had bought the movie without watching it and I didn’t really like it for a number of reasons.

Strangers with Candy is about a woman named Jerri Blank who was a 46 year old high school freshman. She was a boozer, a loser and a user. She even stole the TV. She decided to go back to school and although the faces have changed the hassles are just the same. It is a ridiculous show that I think is so funny. It’s supposed to be parodies of those “After school Specials”. They can get pretty raunchy but I love it.

Some of the running gags are Jerri’s dad is never seen moving, when you see him he is in a weird frozen pose. The art teacher and the history teacher are secretly in love. There are always funny things on the marquee sign in front of Flat Point High. Everything is about things that teenagers go through.

My favorite episodes are the two part episodes where Jerri joins a cult. She goes to the mall with her friend Orlando and she meets this girl named Rebecca who is selling flowers. Since Jerri is a social outcast she gets talked in to going to Safe Trap House and joins the cult. At first it is really hard to break Jerri to where she accepts being in the cult but ultimately she falls under Father's spell and her friends have to go rescue her.

The idea of Strangers with Candy is based on a woman named Florrie Fisher. She looks almost identical to Amy Sedaris’ character of Jerri Blank. Florrie Fisher used to go on tours and talk to high school students in the 70’s about the dangers of drugs, and prostitution. The resemblance is pretty scary. I watched one of her speeches called The Trip Back on YouTube. Florrie Fisher ended up disappearing and never being found as did Jerri Blank.

So, if you want something hilarious to watch that really doesn’t have much of a point. You should check out Strangers With Candy. It stars Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, and Gregory Holliman. You will be entertained. I thought I was the only person in the world that loves Strangers with Candy but I found out my friend Victoria loves it too.

Why buy something when you can get it for free?

I find most books really helpful with learning new things. There are books on practically everything. I think books are important but I also think that the internet is a valuable tool as well. You have millions of different types of information at your fingertips. Of course I still love books and the internet doesn’t replace them by any means but I don’t know how people will write books about stuff that you can search online for free, especially when it comes to frugal tips. These little tidbits can be found for free by typing in frugal tips or tips on making your own baby wipes in the search engine of choice. Who needs to pay 10 to 12 dollars for a book that is essentially many other people’s ideas that you wrote down and claimed as your own? I don’t think it is right to make a buck off of other people’s ideas without giving them a cut. In my opinion, I believe it is wrong.

I have lots of respect for those authors that come up with their own content and do their own research. Those are the books you should be reading and buying. They are honest writers that put in a lot of hard work. I don’t think it is a good idea to buy such a book. It is the equivalence to me searching say Food Network’s website and writing a cookbook about it using their recipes. That example reminds me of an episode of Saved By the Bell where they start selling Screech’s Secret Sauce and they find out the recipe was from the Betsy Crocker cookbook. I am kind of shocked that the publisher even published it. It seems like it would be a law suit in the making in my opinion. Unfortunately, plagiarism is everywhere, even some of my blogging friends are getting their content stolen.

I was on Amazon earlier looking at books and I came across a book called, Instant Bargains: 600+ Ways to Shrink Your Grocery Bills and Eat Well for Less, I was reading through the description and the reviews and the book seems like it would be a total waste of money in my opinion as I said before, You can search the internet for anything. Instead of 600+ ways you could have 600,000 from the internet.

I personally think I will save my money and continue to search the internet for all things cheap. I guess my thinking is…If you are cheap why would you pay for something that is free? It kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. If anyone wants to throw away their money please email me and pay pal it to me instead. I am sure I can put it to good use.

There is a family video of me running around my house when I am like four years old, I am yelling “Here comes Bozo” over and over again, one of the times I fall down on my face. I learned at a young age I loved to sing, I loved to dance and I loved to act. I learned shortly after that, I can’t dance. I have no rhythm at all. I took tap, ballet and dance when I was little but that was about it.

When I was in elementary school I used to sing and dance in our basement. Some of my favorites were Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. I used to sing at the top of my lungs and spin around and dance. I had a lot of fun in my old basement.

I have always loved to sing. I am not the best singer but I sing from my heart. Noah thinks I am a good singer so that is all that matters. I was in choir all during school. When I was in seventh grade I went to a singing competition. I got a first place medal singing Candle on the Water from Pete’s Dragon. I still love that movie and that song. It was fun to compete but I was so nervous. My school also competed in a school wide competition. I think my choir got first in that one too. I still have those medals somewhere. My dad wanted me to be a singer when I grew up and got me a karaoke machine for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. I had it for a long time. I am not sure what happened to it. I enjoyed being in choir in high school as well. It was my favorite class. Now I just sing for Noah and when I am bored.

I also wanted to be an actress when I was little. I loved to act and play pretend. I loved to put on plays. My favorite place to act was at my grandparent’s house. I think it was because they loved to hear me and see me. My favorite play to put on was about the hired girl that my grandma made up. My mom enrolled me in acting classes. Two of the times I didn’t like the teachers because they were rude. One was really old and smelled really bad. I decided it wasn’t the right environment for me to be in. So, I sought learning elsewhere. I went to a acting class where we put on a play at a real theater. It was fun. It was an interesting class.

I also went to Girl Scout camp the kind that you stay for two weeks at and I did the acting camp. That was a lot of fun. We did a bunch of Broadway scenes. I was in The Sound of Music and I also had other parts that I can’t remember right now. I got to say the best line in the song It’s A Hard Knock Life. It was You’ll stay up until this dump shines like the top of the Chrysler Building. I acted in a off Broadway version of Annie. It was so much fun and so nerve wrecking at the same time. I acted in other plays too.

When I got to high school, I really wanted to take drama. I was looking forward to it for years. I got in the class and I failed to realize, I can’t act. I could act theoretically but I would be so nervous that I would just freeze. I would forget my lines or my monologue. I still to this day can only remember a few things about that class, something about my thumb and England. As much as I didn’t like acting I had lots of fun in that class. I thought about taking Drama 2 but I decided that was not a good idea so I went to my counselor for a schedule change. I was also in the Drama Club, not sure why now. Oh I know I had a huge crush on this guy when I was a freshman. He was a big actor. Really though I liked the idea of acting but not actually doing so. I did make some good friends in that class though. I didn’t do any plays in high school. I didn’t even try out. So, I never became a famous actor or singer. In case anyone was wondering.

SeaPak Shrimp Scampi Review

Photobucket
I love shrimp and I love garlic. So, naturally I love Shrimp scampi. When my family went on a vacation to Virginia Beach, we went to this little seafood restaurant. I decided to order shrimp scampi and when it came out it was not the shrimp scampi I was used to. It was made with a product I love so it was pretty good it was just a little disappointing because it wasn’t what I was expecting. Who knew there was more than one way to make shrimp scampi? Well my friend there is. I prefer the garlic shrimp scampi to the other kind because the other kind is reserved for steamed shrimp in my opinion.

When I had the opportunity to review a Seapak product of my choice I was really excited. There were so many different choices in the store. There was popcorn shrimp, butterfly shrimp, coconut shrimp and of course shrimp scampi. I decided on shrimp scampi. I also decided I needed some noodles to go with it. I came up with a delicious recipe that feeds two people which would cost $30 in a nice restaurant for the fraction of the price. It is just as good if not better. It is so easy to make too. Dinner in 15 minutes can’t beat that.

Sheila’s Shrimp Scampi with noodles

1 box of Seapak Shrimp Scampi

1 box of Garlic and Olive oil vermicelli Pastaroni Pasta

First prepare the pasta per the directions on the box

While the pasta is cooking follow the directions on the box of SeaPak Shrimp Scampi
After they are both cooking add the pasta to the skillet of shrimp and stir

If you don’t want all the buttery sauce you can remove some of it from the shrimp

Enjoy.

How easy is that? It tastes like you have been cooking all day or you are a gourmet chef. I hope you all try it and let me know what you think.

The Shrimp Scampi was so good. The shrimp was full of garlic flavor but not too over powering either. It is a great go to meal that doesn’t take very long to make. The shrimp is done in like 8 minutes! Seapak uses quality shrimp and fine ingredients in all of their products. They also make popcorn shrimp; when I was little I loved popcorn shrimp. It reminds me of going to Red Lobster when I was little with my grandma whenever I eat it. The popcorn shrimp is really inexpensive too. It is delicious. I really enjoy eating Seapak products. I hope you check them out the next time you are in the mood for seafood.
