Just Jen Custom T-shirts

I would love to get a few shirts from Just Jen. I want one that says Sheilacakes, and another one that says Noah's Mommy and one for my sister that says bride for her wedding. I think it would be awesome for a family reunion to wear matching shirts with people's names on them especially if you are going somewhere where people can get lost. I think everyone needs a Custom Tee in their closet to wear.

They look so soft and comfortable too. There really is something for any woman or girl because they can be customized. No more having to search for what you want or not be able to get it because they don’t make a t-shirt with your name or nickname or whatever. Not everyone has a name like Sarah or Sally or Sue anymore. So, it can be hard to find something with your name. Look no further than Just Jen!

I have written this post as an entry into the Just Jen $100 GC Blogging Contest hosted on

She worked hard for the money

I want to share with you my enterprises when I was little. I used to come up with this little business ideas. I would make things and sell things.

It all started with that typical Kool-aid stand. My Kool-aid stand was not an ordinary Kool-aid stand. I also sold graham crackers and gummy worms. I was a full service concession stand. I remember selling a couple other items but I can’t remember exactly what it was. My stand was successful.

I decided I needed to branch out some so I started coloring pictures out of coloring books and selling them door to door. They were people that bought them. I was a cute kid so I guess they decided they were worth the price I sold them for. I didn’t really do that for very long. Maybe just once. I mean how many Sheila coloring originals can one person have? Maybe it will be worth something someday.

My main “business” when I was younger was where I sold homemade stationary which consisted of a stamp on printer paper and a matching stamped envelope. I would sometimes break out the toaster and emboss with it. People would buy sets of 8 pieces of paper and eight envelopes. The only time I saw anyone using it was my mom and grandma. You know they were obligated. Not that it was ugly it was just really simple and plain but hey I was young and I had to make a living somehow right? I did that for about a year. People would order it so I would make it. It was fun. I still have letters that my mom wrote me at camp on that stationary. It was cool stuff!

When I was 9, I was a mother’s helper to my next door neighbor. I got paid, (I think) to play with her son while she did housework or whatever. It was fun. When I was a little older I started babysitting a lot. I was the typical babysitting girl. I had fliers and everything. I can still see them in my head. I made a big deal about being Red Cross certified in Babysitting. I had a lot of families I would babysit for and I stayed pretty busy with that for a while.

What kind of business ventures did you do when you were little?

The Oreck Steam-It Review and Giveaway!!!- CLOSED

I learned a very important lesson around Halloween 2008. My neighborhood was “Booing” people where you leave treats for your neighbors and then you hang up a sign so everyone gets a turn. I had many different adhesives being a crafter and I got the not so brilliant idea of using a tape runner to hang up the sign. It was one of those permanent ones with the little raised dots. Big mistake, over a year later I had tape runner on my window by the front door. I tried everything I could think of to get it off. Window cleaner, vinegar, spit, all purpose cleaner nothing would do it. You couldn’t pick it off. It was stuck. When they say permanent they mean permanent. Well, not anymore. There is no more tape runner on my window by the front door thanks to the wonderful people at Oreck!

My son decided he wanted to decorate the glass of my entertainment center with stickers the other day. The picture of the sticker came off but not the sticky mess. My Oreck Steam-It took it all away with a wave of my new magic wand. Just think if you have stickers on your car windows that have been there for years, you can kiss them good bye. Oreck came up with what I now call Mommy’s magic wand, it is the Oreck Steam-it. Oreck is a vacuum company that has been around for many years. I am sure you are all familiar with the famous Oreck man from the commercials.

The Steam-It is pure genius it is more than just a steam mop; it more like a steam almost surface in your home machine. I have used my Steam-it to clean the seats of my toilets, fresh steamed toilet seats would make Mr. Monk happy. I have also used it in the tub to get in those hidden places where the gunk seems to hide. It is great on counter tops and cabinets. Of course you can mop your floors with it too. You can use it up high without having to worry about it leaking on you. I am most excited about being able to use it on my mattress which I am sure could need some freshening up.

I am sure you are wondering; what kind of products do you have to buy to put in it? I know when I had a carpet cleaner I hated having to buy the cleaning solution for it because it seemed to get used very quickly and that could get expensive too. I don’t have a carpet cleaner anymore, it broke so, I don’t have to worry about that anymore. The Steam-It only uses water. No nasty chemicals to add or worry about you just fill it up and turn it on. I am all about easy stuff when it comes to doing chores so I can spend my time with my adorable little boy.

The Steam-It comes with attachments too. They were a little hard to get on the wand at first but that is probably because it was new the first time. Make sure you just keep pressing on them. You would want a tight seal though. Something I also wanted to mention is I want to share with you about the funnel. It took me like a half an hour to find it. I thought that I was missing it. It is clear and blends in to the packaging. I have some pretty silly stories about thinking I don’t have parts of things. So, keep looking for the funnel I am sure it will be there.

I really love my Oreck Steam-It it has a million and one uses and I love that everything is steamed and sanitized. As a mom of a three year old I like to be as germ free as possible. Of course this would be great for anyone. I think it makes my home look wonderful and so clean. The unit costs $179.95 and just think about the money you will save on cleaners. It is a great item to own.

You can find the Oreck Steam-It at Oreck stores and online at Oreck’s website.

Help Feed The Hungry!

It really upsets me when I think about people going hungry especially children. A few years ago, I gave a woman I knew a whole box of food for her son out of my own cabinets. I used to participate in the school can drives, I even went door to door and collected cans for it. The weirdest thing I received was a can of Leechies . I still don’t know exactly what a leechie is. I think it is a fruit. I have the opportunity to tell you about a great way to help people in the US that are going to bed hungry. The good people at Oscar Mayer have teamed up with The Good Mood Mission to start a campaign that will donate up to 2 million pounds of food.

Oscar Mayer jump started the campaign with a donation of a million pounds of food is leading the Los Angeles celebration with hundreds of passersby and performers joining together in music and dance to form a giant flash mob smile face with Wienermobile vehicles, as well as members of the USC Trojans Marching Band. As Good Mood Ambassador, Emmy and Tony Award winner, Kristin Chenoweth will officially dispatch the fleet of Wienermobile vehicles on their cross-country journey to spread miles of smiles for the Good Mood Mission. The event brings to life the theme of the Oscar Mayer brand’s new advertising campaign “It Doesn’t Get Better Than This.” To make this good mood moment even better, everyone will enjoy a complimentary brown-bag lunchtime option featuring an assortment of Oscar Mayer products.

I think that sounds like a lot of fun and such a worthy cause. If you want to help it is really easy. Here is what you do: The Oscar Mayer brand has made it easy to share a smile with a simple click and everyone across the country is invited to join the mission at Good Mood Mission or From January through September, the more good moods shared and sent to others, the more pounds of food donated to Feeding America. And, while helping others should be incentive enough, the campaign rewards participation with Oscar Mayer brand coupons and other fun offers. Just a few moments of your time will help so many people.

For each mission, Americans are invited to reveal what makes them smile and share this thought with friends and family. Every participant has the chance to be showcased on the campaign’s animated, visual gallery of “real-life” good mood moments from people across the country. The Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission campaign will be supported via an integrated marketing campaign, as well as a coast-to-coast local market tour with the Wienermobile vehicles throughout the year. Yes you may see the Weinermobile in your town soon. I think that would be so cool to see the Wienermobile because it is such an icon of America, as it should be because so is Oscar Mayer!

So, be sure to take the time to help others by creating your own “Good Mood” at Good Mood Mission and/or become a fan at
You can also follow @OscarMayer on Twitter.

I did not receive anything for this post. I did this post out of the kindness of my heart.

Movies Movies Movies

I am a movie quoter. That means I will quote movies in every day life. I do it all the time most people like my mom will just look at me strangely and say what are you talking about. Sometimes I explain it and sometimes I am like never mind. There are a few people out there that know what I am talking about. I love to watch movies.

I spend a lot of my time watching them I thought I would share with you some of my favorites that are not as well known as others, but are great movies none the less.

Most people I know that have seen Requiem for a Dream do not like it. They say it is depressing well, hello it is supposed to be. It’s about addiction and the down side of it. It talks about other addictions besides drugs. I really think everyone should see that movie that is over 18 since it does have some hard parts to it to swallow. I think that it would make people rethink using drugs and having other addictions as well.

It is definitely not a movie that glamorizes drug use like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or a Cheech and Chong movie. Both I can’t understand why anyone would sit down and watch. That of course is just my opinion. It starts out in Summer when things are all happy and dreams are big. You know the magic that Summer has. It goes through the Seasons with each getting progressively worse. I will not give anything else away as I believe it is a must see movie even if it is just an Indie Film. There are Four main characters and you follow all 4’s stories about addiction and dreams. It is definitely a favorite of mine. I recommend you should see it. You might even learn something.

Serial Mom is one of the greatest movies EVER. I remember the first time I saw it. It was on USA or TNT when I was over at a friends house spending the night. It was great. Something you got to know about me is I am the biggest scardey cat. I hate scary movies. In fact I get scared really easily. So when I saw this movie I thought it was cool how they make fun of scary serial killer movies by making a happy homemaker as the Serial Killer. It is a funny movie and I love it. Any time I make meatloaf I say Ladies and Gentlemen the perfect Meatloaf as I set it on the stove. Yes I am aware she says that when she serves it. I also learned from Ms. Beverly Sutphin that you can’t wear white shoes after Labor Day. You just can’t! It also stars a very young Jack McCoy as Beverly’s husband Eugene. Yes he makes that same face he does in Law and Order when they read the verdict.

I also love the movie Kalifornia. It is about a writer and his girl friend who decide that he is going to write a book about serial killers by visiting famous murder sites and his girlfriend is a photographer. They meet up with Early and Adele who are hillbillies and Early and Adele are trying to go to California. Early has a really bad temper and well I won’t ruin the rest. It stars David Duchovny and Brad Pitt. Juliette Lewis is also in the movie. It is a great movie that I think didn’t get the recognition that it truly deserves. The only reason I saw it was because it was on a local station back in 2003. I didn’t have cable and so, shows were limited. They would occasionally play a movie on one of the channels on a Sunday afternoon.

Another one of my favorite movies is The Hudsucker Proxy. It stars Tim Robbins and Jennifer Jason Leigh who was amazing in Single White Female btw. Tim Robbins plays a guy named Norville Barnes from Muncie Indiana and he starts working at Hudsucker Industries in the mail room. Mr. Hudsucker jumped out the window and died and now the board needs a nit wit to pretty much ruin the company by becoming the president. Norville is an idea man so, the boards plan doesn’t exactly carry out the way they want it too. Jennifer Jason Leigh plays a reporter named Amy Archer who wants to see Norville Barnes fail. She even goes undercover to get the scoop. It is a fun, light hearted movie. Tim Robbins is an amazing actor with a lot of talent.

So, there you have it folks. Requiem For A Dream, Serial Mom, Kalifornia and The Hudsucker Proxy. Go rent them. They are all great movies. Have you seen any of these? If you have what do you think of them? Also what are some of your favorite unknown movies?

Late July Cookies Review

“Cookies Cookies” Noah is a cookie monster. I sometimes wonder if he is a direct descendant of Cookie Monster himself. Not because he is blue or furry but because he loves cookies that much. So when I had the opportunity to try out some cookies from Late July I thought these would be perfect for my little cookie monster.

Late July is a family owned and operated organic snack company. It was started by Stephan Bernard and Nicole Dawes. Late July makes cookies in both full size and mini sandwich cookies. The full sized sandwich cookies flavors are Vanilla Bean and Dark Chocolate. The mini sandwich cookies come in mini milk chocolate and mini white chocolate. They also make two flavors of full size crackers Classic Saltines and Classic Rich crackers. There are mini peanut butter sandwich crackers too.
Everything they make is USDA certified organic made with fine ingredients.

Late July has been featured on The Food Network show Unwrapped. I learned a lot about Late July when I saw them featured on Unwrapped. One of the things I learned is the little boy and the dog is the Nicole’s son and dog. You can also find a secret number written in the sailboat that has to do with her son’s birthday. See if you can find it while you are snacking on these gourmet organic goodies.

We had the chance to try both varieties of the organic mini cookies. Noah loves them. He gobbles them up. The mini cookies they have animals on them because 10% of the profits go to the Jane Goodall Institute. Noah really likes to name the animals on the cookies as he eats them. It is really cute to listen to him talk about the animals. He asks for the cookies all the time. He calls them the cookies with the animals on them. I had to try them too. I love cookies too. I think they taste good. I have tried other organic cookies before and Late July tastes so much better than the other ones I tried. They don’t taste like they are a healthier option. We both like them a lot. We like to sit together and share a small bowl of cookies. I usually only get one or two though. I feel confident giving him Late July Organic Mini Cookies because they don’t have all the extras like High Fructose Corn Syrup in them. They are made with whole grain and are a good source of calcium.

You can find Late July products in stores. You can use the store locator on the side bar of the website to find a location near you!

For more information please visit Late July. Please visit the Late July store to order delicious cookies and crackers that your little one are sure to love.

Thank you to Late July for sending me some samples of mini organic cookies for me to review.

Sheila's Fruit Pizza Recipe

I thought I would share my favorite non cupcake dessert with you all. It is called Fruit Pizza. No, you don't use cheese or sauce. It is delicious. There are many recipes out there for Fruit pizza but I think mine is the best, because it calls for POWDERED SUGAR instead of granulated sugar.

This would be a great Valentine treat for your loved ones!

You will need:

1 package of Pilsbury sugar cookie dough

1 8 ounce package of cream cheese softened!

1 pound of strawberries (maybe less if you have big ones)

1 tsp of vanilla

1 and 1/2 cups of Powdered sugar I eye balled it Just until it tastes good you don't want it to be too sugary but not to cream cheesy.

Pre-heat the oven to 375 F

Take the cookie dough and cut it in to pieces in a pizza pan and smoosh them all together until it covers the pan. Then bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool completely this is important

Then combine the cream cheese the vanilla and powdered sugar and mix (mixer works the best) until creamy

Then spread the icing on the cookie crust

Take the strawberries and remove the green top and slice the strawberries in to slices and cover the pizza with the strawberries
You can also use other fruits like kiwis or whatever you like. I use only strawberries.

POM Wonderful Review!

I used to work at a Montessori preschool. The director of the preschool brought in a pomegranate for the children to try the seeds. I had never tried pomegranate seeds before so I tried them as well. I thought it was pretty good. I didn’t go out and buy pomegranates though because I didn’t fall in love with the seeds. Everyone knows the popularity and health benefits of pomegranates. So, when I had the opportunity to review some POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice I was curious to try it.

This was my first time drinking pomegranate juice so; I thought I would try something new. Usually when I try something new I end up liking it. POM Wonderful is a company that grows their own pomegranates and makes pomegranate juices, teas, and more. POM is healthy brand of 100% pomegranate juice that you can find in the refrigerated section at the grocery store. I have always seen it in the refrigerated produce case.

According to the website POM Wonderful is the only 100% authentic 100% pure pomegranate juice. Three independent labs tested ten other brands claiming to have 100% pomegranate juice and found that nine out of ten so-called pomegranate juices had added sugar, colorants and other low-grade fruit juices. POM Wonderful is full of rich antioxidants which provide many health benefits. One of the most health benefits is improved cardiovascular health. POM Wonderful juice comes from the Wonderful variety which is grown in California and bottled there too!

POM Wonderful comes in really cute bottles. You could even reuse them for water bottles after your juice is gone. If your children like to do sand art this would be a really cute bottle to do it in. The bottles are made from strong plastic. I can see them lasting a long time if you wanted to reuse them. The shape of the bottle is unique and fun to look at. The Pomegranate juice is rich and full of flavor. My family is trying really hard to get the 5 or 6 servings of fruits and vegetables in our daily diets and this juice is an easy way to do it. After drinking the juice I felt healthier, I felt like I had more energy to do my daily tasks. I am going to incorporate POM Wonderful juice in to my daily routine.

For more information about POM Wonderful please visit their website.

You can find some delicious recipes HERE

Thank you to POM Wonderful for sending me some complimentary POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice to sample and review.

Attention Canadians!

Anyone who lives in Canada I am so jealous of you. It has been 4 years since I have had any Freybe Pepper Salami and much longer for the Gipsy Salami. I love it. It is so good. I want to taste some right now. They don’t sell it in my state at all I don’t think. They told me there isn’t anywhere that sells it near me. Yet I still look and I still long for it. Nothing compares to you Freybe. I wish they would sell it again near me. I would be so incredibly happy.

I have tried online places but I don’t want to pay up wards to 40 dollars for ONE pound of salami, even though it is worth it. I just can’t justify it. I would pay like 20 but 40 is too much. If anyone lives in Canada look for Freybe Salami it is delicious. It has a spice ring around it. I am drooling just thinking of it. The Gipsy is my favorite, followed by the Pepper Salami then the Parmessano Salami.

Anyone out there in Canada, please send me Freybe Salami and I will be your bestest friend in the whole wide world. Pretty Please with sugar on top?

Dean's Dairy Dips Review

Deans's Dip Dipstakes
What is the best way to dress up your potato chips and veggies? The answer is Dean’s Dips. Dean’s Dips come in many varieties such as French Onion, Ranch, Guacamole, Spicy Guacamole, Green Onion, Veggie and two varieties of pretzel dips; Cheddar Cheese and Honey Mustard. It is perfect as a snack at a party or watching your favorite sporting event. Dean’s Dips are great for those times when you are alone watching a movie too. There have been many times that my friends and I have sat down to watch a movie together with a bowl of French Onion Dip. We ate it straight out of the container and by the end of the movie the dip was gone too.

Sometimes you get invited to a last minute party or picnic and you don’t have time to make the dip or an appetizer so why not stop at the store and grab some Dean’s Dairy Dip and a bag of chips and go? If you have some at home you could put it in a nice bowl and they wouldn’t even know that it was store bought. You could even bring a bowl and carefully transfer it when you got there. How is that for quick and easy? It would also be a great snack when your kids come home with the whole neighborhood it’s inexpensive and oh so good.
Deans's Dip Dipstakes

I am one of those weird people that can’t stand ranch anything, except for Cool Ranch Doritos; but I love French Onion Dip. I love onions and Deans Dip is the perfect blend of onion and spices. The French Onion dip is so creamy and dresses up plain old potato chips perfectly. It is really good and so much better than store brand dip. I am normally fine with store brand items but there are certain things I will not compromise on, such as soda, cookies, and now French Onion Dip. I am a Dean’s girl all the way now.

There are many awesome recipes on the Dean’s Dairy Dips website. So it isn’t just for plain snacking, not that there is anything wrong with that at all. It has been my go to snack when I need something tasty that will fill me up. The French Onion Twice Baked potatoes sound delicious! I can’t wait to try that recipe. I love onions and potatoes. The Super Easy Queso dip sounds equally delicious too! I am going to have to try some of these recipes and I hope you do too. I think it would be fun to compare and see what I like and what you like too. You can find the recipes HERE.

I am impressed with both the Dean’s French Onion Dip and the website. Seriously, entertaining ideas? That would be perfect for anyone who loves to entertain or those who aren’t very good at it could get some great tips like what recipes compliment what occasions and ways to entertain your party guests. Hopscotch Tees Review

Have you ever seen those signs that tell you when something was established? I remember my old neighbors had one by their front door with their last name and the year the parents got married. I will always remember that sign. How about a shirt for your child that has the same idea? Hopscotch Tees decided to make a line of adorable children’s shirts with really cute designs and sayings that you can get for your child or your grandchild with their name and city or neighborhood and the year that they were born. They have shirts for both boys and girls even adults too. The shirts are available in long sleeve and short sleeve.

I got Noah a long sleeve shirt that has fishing lures on it that says Noah’s Tackle Shop. Tying the best lures in the city we live in since 2006. The shirt was wrapped up beautifully in a box with really nice ribbon. There was also a lollipop in the package. It is little personal touches like that, that bring a smile to my face. The shirt is soft and looks really cute on Mr. Noah. This would be a great Valentine’s Day gift or a birthday present for the little one in your life. They have lots of really cute shirts. I had a hard time picking which one to get. I decided on the fishing lures shirt because Noah loves fish. I can see him going fishing when he gets older. The day we received the shirt Noah started using the ribbon as a crane. He turns strings and ribbons and whatever he can find in to cranes. It’s really cute. He is so proud of his new shirt and he loves wearing it. He looks absolutely adorable in it too.

For more information and to order a Hopscotch Tee for your little one please visit the website.

Thank you to Hopscotch Tees for sending Noah a t-shirt for reviewing purposes.

Lets Grow: Let's Lend A Helping Hand DVD Review and Giveaway!

As you all know I am a member of PBS Sprout’s Band of Bloggers. I had the opportunity to review the new Let’s Grow: Let’s Lend a Helping Hand DVD. It is a fun children’s DVD about helping others and lending a helping hand to anyone who might need your help. Sprout has teamed up with HIT Entertainment to start a new series of DVD’s called Let’s Grow; that focus on areas preschoolers encounter daily such as helping out, manners, safety, friendship,
cooperation and more. Our friends Kelly and Chica from the Sunshine Barn on The Sunnyside Up Show host this wonderful gem of entertainment.

It features episodes of Barney, Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, and Angelina Ballerina. All of the shows are on Sprout and produced by HIT Entertainment. Kelly and Chica also award the characters The Good Egg Award which Sproutlets get for being great helpers. You can even nominate your little Sproutlet for one HERE.

Noah saw the Let’s Grow: Let’s Lend a Helping Hand DVD on the counter and constantly talked about Barney and Thomas and “Fire Sam”. Last night I promised we would watch the DVD in the morning. Noah and I sat down together and watched the DVD. Noah loved it. He sat there and watched it, occasionally commenting on what was on the screen. It caught his attention and he wanted to watch it again after it was over. Noah can be pretty picky about what he watches when. So, it was great that he was really enjoying the Let’s Grow: Let’s Lend a Helping Hand DVD. I really like that there is an episode of Fireman Sam as that show is one of Noah’s favorites and it is harder to find. I love Kelly’s energy on The Sunnyside Up Show and everyone loves Chica. Chica is definitely awesome. Noah talks about Chica all the time. If your children love Sprout this is a must have DVD to add to your collection. The Let’s Grow: Lets Lend a Helping Hand DVD is in stores now.

For more information please visit Sprout’s website.

17 years ago today, My Grandpa Jim passed away. He was a great man. He was the man that I always looked up to. He was a retired diesel mechanic who would still go to work when someone needed him. His finger nails were stained black from the diesel oil from working on the 18 wheelers. He always had a smile on his face. He would go out of his way to help others. He would instantly make friends with anyone who was sitting next to him on the bench at the mall while grandma and I shopped. He was amazing. He would always bring me Mc Donald’s when I was staying at their house which was very often. I loved spending time with him and we even had our own Cabbage Patch Kids Clubhouse which was his tool shed. My sister and I had fun tying him up while our mom and grandma went shopping. Once my grandpa saw that a shingle was loose on the roof and he had climbed up a ladder and was standing on the roof. He scared my mom by doing that.

My Grandpa Jim was a fighter. He broke his neck and lived to tell the tale. I knew any time I would wake up in early morning I would find him playing solitaire and drinking coffee. My grandpa was famous for his hat collection. His favorite hat was his Electronic Butterfly hat that my aunt and uncle had given him from their business. He loved to take pictures and go out west to California. He loved to travel and go on adventures. He also loved to watch ball games. He was a huge Purdue fan. I used to lie in between the kitchen and family room and watch TV and my grandpa used to pretend to step on me. I was a skinny kid and he would call me Skinny Minnie. I remember a time that I had ate a Lifesaver and I was choking on it. He took me outside and threw me over his shoulder and patted me on the back until the Lifesaver came out. He was my Lifesaver that day. He was truly the best gentleman and many people were blessed to have him in their lives.

I still remember the day he died. I remember when we got the call to go to the hospital right away, since they won’t tell you over the phone. It was an hour drive. It was a very long hour. I remember I cried the whole way there. I remember going in to the hospital and finding out he was gone. I remember sitting in the room and staring at the box of tissue. A family friend’s daughter was a nurse at the hospital. I knew her parents because they lived across the street from my grandparents and her sister was my grandma’s hair stylist and she cut my hair sometimes. I remember I drank a little can of Shasta. I cried and cried that day. They told us that he was laughing one minute and joking with the nurses and the next minute he was gone. There were so many people at his funeral. He was buried with the one thing that was most fitting for him… his wrench.

I think about him all the time. We talk about him often. I hate putting things together and when I can’t figure them out I am sure my grandpa is laughing at me and thinking it is so simple. I wish both my grandparents could have met Noah. Noah’s middle name is James after him. Noah does a lot of things that would make my grandpa smile. Noah has that same urge to fix things and figure out how they work. Noah is definitely his great grandfather’s great grandson.

I am sure my Grandpa Jim is looking down on us and whenever Noah is doing something with wheels or trying to figure out how something works he smiles and says that’s my boy.

Blender Blender

My oldest kitchen appliance is my blender. I have mentioned this ghetto contraption to some of my blog friends. It is seriously over 20 years old. I am sure it is older than that. For as long as I can remember this blender has been in our family. It is an old Oster blender. It is pretty much useless unless you are blending pure liquids. If you are making a frozen drink or milk shake it is almost impossible to chop ice with it. You have to shake it really hard while it is blending.

Thankfully, I haven’t had any incidents were the glass part comes off and goes flying. The cord is so old that the safety features on it are long since gone. The features on it are so outdated. Did you know now you can attach a juicer or a popcorn popper to some blenders? OK I made up the popcorn popper attachment but you get where I am going.

I used to marvel at the ease of other peoples blenders. I remember once my old friend and I were having daiquiris together and I went to make them and I was getting ready to shake the blender and she looked at me like what are you doing? I realized her blender actually WORKED properly. It was fast and you didn’t have to do the old shake n pray, where the top didn’t go flying and splatter all over the counter.

I hardly ever use my blender, I would love to use it more but, it is such a pain it is hardly worth it plus who wants to drink something frozen with big ice chunks in it? Not me. I actually have to scoop the ice chunks out after it won’t chop anymore. It is a loved blender with many many wonderful memories of holiday baking and milk shakes and good times. However I think it is time to retire the poor thing and get a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions of good blenders?

I tried to look up my blender online and I couldn't find anything about it.

Shhh! I have a confession!

This is a TOP SECRET Sheilacakes confession. Please don't tell anyone!

I am guilty of watching those cheesy Lifetime Movies. I love them. Not the sappy romantic ones. They bore me to tears! I love the ones where someone is killed and there is all kinds of mystery and suspense with horrible acting. I watched a movie called “My Neighbor’s Secret”. It was pretty good. It wasn’t anything impressive. Here is the plot: A man and woman get killed in the airport parking garage while her husband is at a business meeting. Come to find out the husband had the wife killed cause she was having an affair or something. They never really made it clear. Then the husband started stalking the neighbor’s wife and falls in love with him and he hates her husband because he got her a job and blah blah blah.

You know how it is at the end. The bad guy gets hurt or killed in some weird fashion. This time it was being stabbed by the neighbor’s wife after she accidentally stabbed her own husband. Although he wasn’t killed he ended up in the nut house. There are never really good endings to those movies. They are all very predictable too. Yet I still find pleasure and watching them. They are fun to make fun of too.

My mom and I watched a lot of them when I was pregnant with my son. I don’t watch them too often though. I think my favorite “Lifetime Movie” is A Girl Like Me. That is a good one, It is about Gwen Araujo and she was murdered for being a trans-gender. It is a real story too. I also thought Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy was a great movie. It is also a true story about a woman who is in her twenties when she found out she has Breast Cancer. She wore red lipstick because it gave her courage to fight her battle with Breast Cancer. I definitely cried at the end like a baby. I am not saying I don’t like some warm fuzzy movies cause I do, just not normally on Lifetime. Well unless they are “real” movies.

I started watching a movie called Karla, it is a true story about the Barbie and Ken Killers. Karla was an abused woman who got sucked in to her boyfriend’s rape and murdering spree in Canada. I watched about forty five minutes of it before I had to turn it off. It was a good movie, it was just scaring me. It was late and I kept hearing noises outside and I was spooked. Normally I love watching Lifetime but occasionally it will scare me.

I am so lucky to have both Lifetime and The Lifetime Movie Network so I can indulge in all the cheesy movies I want! ? I couldn’t get in to the Nora Roberts or the holiday movies on Lifetime. I actually got sick of Fa-la-la Lifetime because all the movies were all happy and sappy. Seriously people how many different ways can people be “related to” Santa Claus? Do you like Lifetime Movies? Does your husband watch them with you? What are some of your favorites?

Childhood Bad Dreams

A lot of children have bad dreams. When I was a child I would have them fairly often. I would dream about weird things and now 20 some years later I still remember a few of the dreams I had. I thought I would share one with you. This was my reoccurring nightmare. You could mention his name and my mom would start talking about him. My nightmare was about an alien named Kevin. Yes, he was an alien and he was named Kevin. Why he was an alien I don’t know? I also don’t know why his name was Kevin? Kevin would come visit me and then when he got mad he would turn in to a mean queen.

Yes, I will recap that for you, when I was little I had nightmares about an alien named Kevin and when he got mad he would turn in to a mean queen. It would scare me so much. Not just to the point where I would wake up and cry, but to the point where I would go crawl in bed with my parents. My mom would ask me if I had the Kevin dream again and I would cry and say yes. I must have had this dream every so often for at least a year. I have no idea what the point of it was. It’s not like I sat around watching alien shows I don’t think. The X-files wasn’t on yet, and I was really young so I was probably watching Sesame Street and other kid’s shows. Of course dreams aren’t meant to make any sense. So, yes I am weird. I still have weird dreams but I have been Kevin free for quite some time. Now, I just dream about other weird things.

How about you? Do you have weird dreams? Did you have any reoccurring dreams as a child?

My favorite childhood movie

My favorite movie growing up was Peter Pan. I am pretty sure the Peter Pan I loved so much is not the one you are thinking of. It is not the Disney one. In fact the Disney one isn’t even one I particularly care for from what I remember. I haven’t seen it in a very long time. My favorite Peter Pan is the one with Mary Martin. I believe it came out in the 70’s. I love that version. The characters are so much better. The music is awesome. It is so fun to watch. I highly recommend it. I have probably seen it a trillion times. I know all of the words and songs by heart. Of course they sing I won’t grow up and I’ve got to crow. My favorite song is Ugga Wugga Wigwam.

The story is also different. Captain Hook tries to poison Peter Pan twice, once with a cake and once with Peter’s medicine. Tink is represented by a flickering light. Then you have the animals that dance randomly in the Forrest. It is quality entertainment. I had it on VHS when I was little and wore it out I watched it so much. The tape broke. That was a very sad day for me. I am sure I cried.

This Peter Pan is really hard to find. I found it on DVD on Ebay. I happily bid on it. Less than a day later, the seller said I won before the auction was over. I was so excited but then I noticed that they had another copy listed shortly after. Who in the world has more than one copy of Mary Martin’s Peter Pan on DVD? Then I remembered what my mom always says, If it sounds too good to be true than it probably is. I decided not to send the seller the money. Had it ever been released on DVD? I know that is bad on my part since it is a contract.

I went on my little way wanting so much to watch my childhood favorite plus Noah was born before this and I desperately wanted to share the movie with him. The movie has been a big part of my life. I have many fond memories of watching it and running around singing the songs with old friends. About a month after I “won” the DVD that I never paid for. For the record this is the only time I ever didn’t pay. I got an email from Ebay. My heart sunk I was thinking oh no I am in big trouble. The email said that this seller is a scammer and stop payment or whatever. I thought that I was glad I didn’t send it. It was only 30 dollars but that’s still money.

I started watching it on You Tube. I thought that I would look again. I think this time I tried Amazon for the VHS. At the time I had a DVD-r VHS combo thing. So I could watch it. This time it came and I made a backup copy with my machine for my viewing pleasure since the tape is easily over years old and was used. I am excited to share this movie with my son. I am sure he will love it as much as I do.

What are some of your favorite movies as a child to watch? I am interested in hearing your responses.

Davidsons Safest Choice Eggs Review

I really enjoy eating eggs. I also like to eat raw cookie dough. Growing up my grandmother used to make me a special breakfast when I would come and stay with her. She would call this special egg dish, chicky eggs. A chicky egg is a soft boiled egg with buttered bread that you use to dip in to the egg. You eat them right from the shell. Someday I will share with you all the proper way of eating a chicky egg. They are delicious. I always preferred my chicky eggs on the runny side. I know now that it wasn’t probably the safest idea. They were cooked but not as much as they should have been. I never got sick from eating chicky eggs. I still occasionally delight in that dish from my childhood. I knew that I wanted to share this dish with my son but I was really leery of doing so, because of the risk of salmonella.

My favorite thing about making cookies, well baking in general, is sampling the dough or batter. I have remembered a specific time when I made cookies with my childhood friend when she and her family were visiting from North Carolina. Jennifer and I had a great time baking together. While we were rolling the balls of cookie dough, we would eat some of the dough. Her dad came into the kitchen and started to yell and lecture us about THE DANGERS of consuming raw cookie dough. At the time I was wondering why Uncle Barry was making such a big deal about it. I honestly still eat raw cookie dough and I probably always will. I also like to lick the spoon when I make cupcakes or brownies.

Every year during December, my family and I make all kinds of cookies and sweets. There is a certain secret recipe that we make every year, which was created by a family friend of ours. It has a raw egg in it and every year we shrugged it off as oh well I hope we don’t get sick. It is too good to just not make. This year we were able to make that recipe without worrying about getting sick. My son had not had the pleasure of tasting raw cookie dough until recently when I had the opportunity to learn about Davidson’s Safest Choice Eggs. Davidson’s makes pasteurized eggs in the shell.

From the Davidson’s Safest Choice Pasteurized Eggs website:
Davidson's Safest Choice is the leader in pasteurized shell eggs! Using a revolutionary patented technology, National Pasteurized Eggs, Inc. produces Davidson's Safest Choice Pasteurized Shell Eggs and distributes them across the nation. This process kills Salmonella bacteria and viruses like Avian influenza. Yet our eggs look, cook and taste just like other shell eggs.

This is how they do it from the website:
• The National Pasteurized Eggs process starts with the arrival of clean, farm-fresh eggs on sanitized plastic flats from our pre-approved, USDA certified and inspected farms.
• All eggs arrive from USDA inspected, family owned and operated farms and are delivered within 48 hours of being laid.
• Hens are fed diets that contain no hormones, no antibiotics and no animal by-products are used.
• The eggs enter our patented pasteurization system where the carriers transport the eggs to our clean, warm water bath pasteurizer.
• The eggs continue through the water bath where this mixture of exact time and temperature assures accurate pasteurization. The eggs are pasteurized to exceed a 5 log reduction of harmful bacteria or viruses without cooking the eggs. The 5 log reduction of Salmonella is the regulated standard set by the FDA required for a product to be labeled pasteurized. The NPE patented process ensures that eggs meet and exceed this 5 log FDA requirement without cooking the eggs.
• The eggs move on automated carriers where they receive an optical check that identifies and removes all damaged or cracked eggs.
• The eggs then are conveyed out of the pasteurization bath and through an automatic waxing unit which applies a food grade wax protection over the egg shell. This wax acts as an additional seal to protect the eggs from absorption of any cross-contaminants that otherwise could pass through the shell's thousands of open pores.
• Next, the eggs receive a red Circle P stamp identifying them as pasteurized.
• This finished product is then packed, moved to coolers and brought to below 45°F., and palletized for shipment.
• The pasteurization facility and production are managed under controlled HACCP procedures adhering to defined SOP’s and GMP’s and Circle U Kosher approval standards. The facility and process are inspected and certified by USDA and Silliker Labs and approved by the FDA.
• The total pasteurization process above results in destruction of bacteria and viruses inside and outside the shell, preserving freshness and taste as well as significantly extending the shelf life of the eggs.
• That's how we pasteurize our eggs!

The eggs are delicious. They taste exactly like normal eggs. I made chicky eggs a few times and I like them runny because they are delicious and easier to dip. I didn’t have to worry about them making me sick and I was able to have them runny once again like my grandma Diana once made them.

You can find some free recipes that incorporate raw eggs HERE

So, now you can enjoy raw cookie dough, cake batter, brownie batter, and ice cream without a worry of any risk of salmonella. That also means that Noah can also share in my favorite childhood breakfast. I am really excited for that. I think that Safe eggs changed eggs as we once knew them. Next time you are at the store look for Davidson’s Safest Choice Pasteurized Eggs and pick up a carton or two and now you can safely pig out on cookie dough without any risk of Salmonella. The eggs are safe to eat 4 to 6 weeks after the Best by date too. The best by date is when the eggs are their freshest.

Flirty Aprons Review and Giveaway

My Grandma Rose loved to cook and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen with her baking cakes, cookies and preparing meals. She also made special treats that are family secrets. She would always wear an apron. She had a bunch of them. I would always wear one when I cooked with her. She even let me pick which one I wanted to wear first. My favorite was one that looked kind of like a towel. It was a skirt apron or a half apron. I used to twirl around in her kitchen in between helping her cook and occasionally helping with the dishes.

In my adult life, I never had an apron. When I was younger I had play aprons I am sure but nothing that I could pass off wearing now. I am pretty sure I would look ridiculous in my Daisy smock which I occasionally cooked in. So, when I had the opportunity to review an apron from Flirty Aprons, I was really excited. I no longer would look like I had a fight with a flour monster or a sugar cloud. Maybe I am exaggerating a little bit about the mess I make while cooking but, most of the time I am a little messy.

Flirty Aprons is a company that sells adorable aprons for everyone. They have woman’s aprons and even aprons for kids. Just think how cute your daughter would look with a matching apron while in the kitchen with you. They also have some men’s aprons, because men can be messy too. Those of course are not the same prints and colors as the woman’s. These aprons are fun and stylish. They have the cutest patterns. I had a really hard time choosing the one I wanted. I thought about it for a while and I decided since I love cupcakes, I would get the Original Cupcake Apron.

I couldn’t wait until I received it. When the apron came, I immediately tried it on. This apron is not my Grandma Rose’s apron. My new apron is very sassy and sweet. Flirty Aprons completely sheds the only old women wear aprons mentality. The name is very appropriate as well.No need to guess your size because Flirty Aprons are one size fits all. I am enjoying this beautiful well made apron and I look forward to using it in all my cooking adventures as well as while I teach Noah to cook.

For more information and to order an adorable apron for yourself please visit Flirty Aprons.

Just the facts Ma'am

Recently, I ordered The first season of Dragnet from Amazon. I had wanted to watch Dragnet and since it is not on TV anymore I figured I would check out the prices at Amazon. I found the first season new for really cheap. It arrived a few days ago. I was thinking about how I used to watch Dragnet on Nick at Nite, and then I thought about all of those old shows I loved to watch. Many of those shows are not on anymore. I am disappointed about that. Nick at Nite went from shows like Dragnet, I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I dream of Jeanie and Mary Tyler Moore to shows like Roseanne, Fresh Prince of Bel-air, and George Lopez which they show over and over again on many other channels. I can't believe that they would do that to quality television. It really makes me sad. It was fun to watch those old shows. I remember watching them with my Grandma Rose. I wish Nick at Nite would bring back the CLASSICS!

When they decided to make the change at Nick at Nite they started a channel called TV Land. They had only the old shows on there. Now they have some of the old shows like Bonanza which I only like to hum the tune and some others like All in the Family and Sanford and Son and Roseanne is on like 10 times a night. They recently added Home Improvement that was on Nick at Nite but it is like they take it off one channel and throw it on the other. I also miss watching Patty Duke, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and all of those other little gems. No one wants to watch 10 episodes of Roseanne a day, every day. So, Hello out there in TV Land and Nick at Nite. Turn off the junk and bring back the oldie but goodies.

You can do WHAT with your remote?!?!?

HSN is a home shopping network. It has been parodied in so many movies and TV shows. It is a wonderful invention where you can order things from your couch and phone. It was the early home shopping before you could log on your computer and shop online. I used to marvel at the stuff on HSN and QVC when I was little. It was so neat to see all kinds of things. A lot of the things like the food in my opinion is way over priced. You end up paying twice and sometimes three times the actual cost which is nuts. I do like the easy pay options on both.

It was a commercial and I went to click to see what was on HSN. I was watching them talk about bedding with my mom. I saw in the corner it said hit OK/select to order now. I thought maybe it was an error on their end. Nope if you hit OK/ select you can order things from HSN with your TV remote! My mom and I were saying oh lets order 3 of those in each color and just being dorks. Now ladies and gentlemen you can order things without leaving your home, without using the phone, and now without your computer.

I didn’t personally go as far as trying to order anything. We kept discussing different scenarios of things getting ordered. We kinda talked about it the other day with the cable box and the importance of having a pin number so your cleaning lady can’t watch movies or you get the 300 dollar smut cable bill after you had a house guest. I kept thinking about Noah accidentally ordering stuff from HSN. I am sure he wouldn’t be able to but it is kind of scary to think about. I bet that people that have shopping addictions could just sit there and order stuff. That is actually bad for those that can’t afford it and rack up their credit cards. I know people can do that with any form of shopping but I mean it is weird to be able to order products with your cable remote. What are your thoughts? Have you ever ordered anything with your remote other than PPV or anything On Demand?

I am a huge DORK!

When I was in school, I was in choir. I love to sing. I know I will never be on American Idol or become a great singer but, I love to sing. It is fun. When I was in the Sixth Grade we sang a song about the Presidents. It was all of the Presidents in order. I remember my choir teacher saying this will come in handy one day for History Class.

Here it is in all its glory!
I don’t really remember using this knowledge to this date except for the time we were doing the Brain Game and the question was who the first secretary of state was? I quickly sang the first few words of the song and “buzzed in” and said Thomas Jefferson. Well I thought If Washington was the first president, that would make John Adams his Vice President and since Thomas Jefferson came next then it was him. Of course it was purely a guess. I was relying on reasoning. Other than that being able to remember all the Presidents in order isn’t really as much of a good thing as I was once told.

Maybe someday I will be on a game show and I will be asked who is the such and such president and I will know and I will win a million dollars. Then I will have use for this silly song and I will be able to thank Mrs. Brandon for making us sing it. I can sing my presidents in order full names in 32 seconds and I RULE! How many can you name in order? How many can you name not in order?

(I am aware that I am a complete DORK! My friends and family love me anyway)

What will you give me for a basket of kisses?

I don’t know if I have told you guys or not but I hate scary movies. My favorite scary movie is not scary at all. However at the time it was a very scary movie. It was made in the 1950’s though. It was about something that no one thought about. I randomly stumbled on this movie at the library when I was with my old best friend. We were bored and were picking out movies to borrow. We always watched weird movies together; like Mary Reilly and we got it just because we could. We watched it and I ended up loving it. I got really excited when I found it on DVD at Borders. I of course had to snag that up since I would watch it every time it was on Turner Movie Classics which was not often.

The movie is called The Bad Seed. It is about a little girl named Rhoda Penmark and when she’s good she is very good and when she is bad she murders. She will kill anyone who stands in her way. I really don’t want to give away any of the movie. I had my cousin Dan watch it and he really likes it. It’s not gruesome at all. Movies back then were not allowed to be. The Motion Picture Production Code was enforced on this movie. It basically means crime cannot pay and you can’t get away with it and you must be punished so they had to change the ending in the movie from the books ending. No one in the 1950’s would ever imagine that a child could be a murderer. That is way it was scary. All of the actors are amazing too.The movie is in black and white and I think that it gives it an eerie effect. It is really believable.

So, be on the lookout for The Bad Seed on TCM. It is usually on at night normally pretty late. Also check your local movie rental place. It is definitely worth it. Rhoda’s manipulative behavior will make the hair on your neck stand up. Let me know what you think or if you have seen it. It one of those rare gems that not too many people have seen.

New series starting soon on Sheilacakes!

I wanted to share with you guys some exciting news about what is coming up on my blog! I decided since Noah loves to cook, I would do a series about cooking with kids featuring products kid friendly cooking items and products that make kid friendly foods. I will also be including kid friendly recipes and cookbooks.

Noah loves to help me in the kitchen. He is in charge of dumping the ingredients complete with dump truck noises, he also likes mixing. He talks about cracking eggs, I haven’t been brave enough yet to let him try one but, I am sure I will soon. Of course I will share that experience with you. He likes to talk about what we have made together in the past. His favorite to date has to be the M&M cookies we made. I didn’t have a recipe that used regular M&M’s and I couldn’t find the minis or the baking ones so I had to do a little rough justice and wing it. It worked out perfectly just as I suspected. He asks me every other day if we can make more M&M cookies. We still have some in the freezer.

Yesterday, we made Triple Berry Muffins from a pouch; I learned that Noah loves muffins by sampling one at the store once. I was going to buy muffins but then I thought muffin mix is really cheap and homemade is better, because I can add my secret ingredient. I have a silicone mini muffin pan that I use. The muffins come out to be what I call baby size. They aren’t big and they aren’t the next smaller size. One pouch makes 6 regular sized muffins, using my pan it makes 24. So, hopefully that gives you an idea on how small they are. I think they are the perfect size for Noah. They aren’t too big and they are not messy! Those are both important when you have a three year old.

I hope this series will help me create many fun filled memories and instill a lifelong love of cooking for Noah. I also hope that it will encourage you all to get your kids in the kitchen and provide you all with the knowledge and resources to do so.

If you have a kid friendly cooking or baking product, or a product that makes food that kids would enjoy and want to be featured in my awesome series, please use my contact form or email me. I am really looking forward to my series and I hope you are too!

The Secret Life of the American Teenager Volume 3 Review

I have mentioned a couple times before about how much I love watching The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The show is written by Brenda Hampton who also wrote 7th Heaven. I have tuned in and watched every show. I really like it. The Secret Life of the American Teenager is an ABC Family original show about a 15 year old girl named Amy who finds out she is pregnant. She met the guy at band camp and now she is faced with many decisions and choices about what to do as a pregnant teenager and mother. You also follow the lives of Amy’s parents and friends. It reminds me of being in high school again. The show is really well done and is sadly really realistic with what is going on in high schools around the U.S. I own the first two DVD sets so, naturally I was ecstatic about having the opportunity to review the third one.

Amy is now a mother; the episodes discuss what it really is like to be a mom. She is learning the hard way that motherhood is not all cute clothes and pacifiers. She has to juggle school, motherhood, and her boyfriend Ben. The show isn’t just about Amy. There are many other characters that are trying to figure out what to do with the situations they are in. Ricky is John’s father and he has to balance going to school, being a father, working and spending time with his on again off again girl friend Adrienne. Grace is a Christian that is tempted to have sex with her boyfriend Jack. When she does for the first time she is plagued with guilt because a tragedy happens that night. She blames herself for what happened. I don’t want to ruin anymore of the surprises in store on the 3rd volume of The Secret Life of the American Teenager including some really awesome bonus features.

I know that there is a lot of controversy about this show. It is rated TV-14 and I wouldn’t recommend anyone under 14 watch the show. There is a lot of adult language but no more than any other show for teens. I love how they tie moral decisions in and how it doesn’t glamorize being a parent. I think that it would be a great way to open dialogue with your teens by sitting down and watching it with them. If that makes them uncomfortable then maybe watch it in another room or buy the DVD. I think it would be a good idea to discuss the real issues with your children and answer their questions about sex. Please remember that doesn’t mean they are having it. Opening the lines of communication and not brushing the issues under the rug is important. Honestly these things are happening all over the U.S. Kids are having sex and are getting pregnant, even middle school kids.

I highly recommend watching this show with your teenage children. If they want to watch it, then they can ask questions or start a conversation about sex. I know that a lot of adults like to watch it like I do. It is serious but, it also has a lot of humor to it. If you are close to my age you will recognize that Molly Ringwald plays Amy’s mom, Anne. The cast is full of great actors that are blossoming in to big stars. Please check out The Secret Life of the American Teenager volume 3 on DVD in stores now!

Thank you to Walt Disney Studios for the complimentary copy of The Secret Life of the American Teenager volume 3 DVD set for my review.

Look Ma, I am 6 months old!

Today is my SIXTH MONTH anniversary! Wow I have come so far from when I started. I am looking forward to going further. It both seems so long ago and just yesterday. I poured so much sweat and tears in my posts and work that it seems like a long time ago. It also seems just like yesterday when I had started because time has flown by so fast.

I have already learned so much from blogging and I hope you have learned a thing or two from me. I would like to thank my wonderful friends, the companies that continue to believe in me and of course last but not least my awesome readers. I know some of you have been with me since day one. I am so happy to get to know all of my readers and share my life with you all and I am excited to get to know you all more. Cheers to me and my six month anniversary!

So far I have learned that:

Blogging is hard work but, completely worth it.

Blogging friends are the greatest people to have as friends.

I just literally learned what SEO is after six months of hearing the term and now I can stop thinking of a girl’s last name that I went to school with.

If you write it they will come and read it.

Comments are like hugs you can never have too many uplifting comments.

When sad or bad things happen you will have an out pouring amount of support even from strangers.

Trust your gut when it comes to blogging stuff.

Ms. V is the one of the best public relations reps out there and she is a total sweetheart.

I have a voice and I will use it in all my blogging adventures.

Blogging is a combination of bodily fluids. Tears, sweat, blood and sometimes even pee from laughing so hard.

Thanks for reading my blog. I love you all. I am looking forward to my 50th blogging anniversary and I hope you are all there to celebrate with me!

When blogging relationships go bad..

After recent events, that have to do with my blog, I am starting to wonder if all of my efforts are worth it. I really enjoy blogging and reviewing products and doing giveaways but, I am starting to question these things. I have many wonderful relationships with many pr agents and businesses which I am grateful to have. There is one “business” relationship that I had for three months; I really worked hard on everything I did for them. I put business in parentheses because it seemed like it was much more personal as this person emailed me almost daily. I went above and beyond what a normal product reviewer would do, I spent hours upon hours doing things that weren’t really in the scope of my job. It was almost like I had become an employee of this company. I was promised multiple times that they would fully sponsor me to go to BlogHer 10.

I spent my time writing posts for them that were not product reviews. I posted and posted for them. One I had to go back and edit because they stopped their relationship with a foundation. That meant I had to rewrite part of it, so it would make sense. I tweeted about the business multiple times. I also researched for them. I gave them free advertising for three months. I wanted to make sure they got their money’s worth. BlogHer is not cheap by any means.

I prepared a Twitter party and then held the Twitter party on a very devastating day, the last thing I wanted to do was have fun at a Twitter party. I wanted to be there for the community that I belong to. I wanted to mourn a loss of a fellow blogger. Yet, I sucked it up, I superglued a fake smile on my face, and did my job. Little did the guests of the party know that I was crying between my tweets. I was so upset, it turned to frustration because I had not had the help that I thought that I was going to have. I had to deal with other things between the others that were helping me. I had to deal with the sponsor making rude comments at the guests. I thought that overall it was a success. Anyone who has ever hosted a Twitter party knows how difficult they are to run and how stressful they are.

After all the hard work I put in to the company, and after all the nice things I did, I am left with nothing in return. They informed me out of the blue after emailing me as if nothing was wrong and after they sent me a Christmas present and then bailed on me. There were many questionable actions shown by the owner of the company. Many that made my stomach turn. I should have known but I trusted them. Some of the wrong doings were but not limited to insulting other bloggers, forwarding their pitches to me and making fun of them, lying to others, and just plain rudeness.

I was so excited to be able to go to Blogher 10. I talked about it all the time. I was like a kid at Christmas. I know it’s probably not all I think it is, but I want the experience of going. I want to go and learn and meet up with my friends that I have made in the last six months. I want to be able to have some time where I am around adults for an extended period of time without other people’s kids. Everyone deserves a break.

I want to represent a company or companies and use my voice to promote them. For me it is more than just a trip to New York. It is a way to break out of my shell and bloom in to the blogger I want to be through the training and the possible networking I will gain from this experience. It is not a trip it is an adventure and an experience. Now, I am not sure I can even have that experience because of the hurtful things this company did to me.

I am sure one or two of you are thinking, it’s just business. Well, it is not. It is extremely personal and extremely hurtful. It would have been completely different if it was just someone I did a few product reviews for and they just changed their mind. It was something I invested my time and heart completely and fully in this company and I thought that I was doing a great job. I was completely floored that someone would have the nerve to just do this to me after she knew I worked so hard and did so much. It is just so wrong to this to me or anyone. I have spent a lot of time crying. I have gone back and forth between crying and being angry. I feel like I failed and there was nothing else I could do. I felt helpless, I immediately reached out to my friends and I want to thank them all for their continued support. They mean so much to me.

Please don’t walk over bloggers. They deserve the respect and kindness just as much as anyone else. We work very hard for our blogs and for the PR and companies. Only a blogger would truly understand the time and effort we put in to our work. I am sure that most of the companies appreciate all the work bloggers do. It is like when you work really hard on a bunch of projects and once they are completed they call you in their office and fire you.

I am pretty sure I want to keep blogging. I am trying not to let one bad apple ruin it for me. My only regret from blogging is working with that company. I am still extremely upset about this whole ordeal. I feel like I wasted three months for nothing more than empty promises and many lies. I hope that this post brings caution and awareness to others especially bloggers. I hate having the mentality of not being able to trust the people I work with, and now questioning everything and wondering if the same thing will happen again.

So, here I am again back to square one, for looking for sponsorship to BlogHer 10. If you are interested in possibly sponsoring me, please use my contact form or email me. I will work very hard to promote your company. I will post an informational post in the future. I just wanted to get this all off my chest and perhaps help me work through the complete disappointment and hurt that I am feeling right now. I hope that this post helps someone too.

I think a lot of you could answer this question. Who is Gilbert? Especially those with young children. In case you don’t know he is none other than Caillou’s lovable gray cat. Gilbert always gets in to all kinds of mischief and he even gets lost a time or two. Noah loves Caillou as many of you know. So, being an animal lover he also loves Gilbert. He walks around saying Gilbert in the same tone Caillou does. When, I entered giveaways for My Car Pet, I would post in my comments that its name would probably be named Gilbert. I never won one if you were wondering. So, I naturally did what any mother would do and went on a search for a stuffed Gilbert.

Caillou merchandise is not easy to come by. I scoured the internet after all you can find everything online, except a stuffed Gilbert cat. The internet is a wonderous thing. How else can you reach hundreds of thousands even millions of people at once? So, I thought about what I was gonna do. I thought maybe I would keep looking.
During this time I went to a little toy shop and I was looking around. I thought maybe I would find my little boy a new little surprise. Something small, inexpensive then I saw it!

Please pardon the quality of the photo. I took it with my cell. I can’t locate my camera at the moment.
A little Gund Kids stuffed gray striped cat. The employees of the store informed me that it meows. I looked at the price tag as small toy stores can have hefty price tags. I had experience with Baby Gund before when I bought a little soft photo album. The photo album was 15 dollars but I had received a gift certificate/coupon from the hospital when Noah was born.

I did notice the kitty has white feet and Gilbert doesn’t. It was close enough. The Gilbert was really cheap. He was under 5 dollars I believe. I was in shock how cheap it was. When I gave it to Noah he smiled so big. He has a cheek dimple. It’s a special one because instead of being at the middle of his cheeks it is at the top. He inherited that from me cause I had one too. He and his Gilbert are great friends. He carries him around and talks to him. He loves Gilbert. He loves when Gilbert meows. It is a very distinguished meow, enough that I could pick him out of a voice lineup.

We went to Wal-mart today and he managed to carry Gilbert to the car. I waited to get him in his car seat and then explained to Noah that Gilbert was going to stay in our house. I told him that Gilbert is too special to lose. It would be heartbreaking if we lost him. He seemed to be fine with it and Gilbert was sitting on the dryer when we got home.

I have a confession to make! I am what you would call a ZOMBIE MOMMY. I hardly ever wear makeup. I am also considered frumpy. You know in the movie The Stepford Wives when Mike is showing the Stepford video, I am the before wife. So, I have made it my goal since it is New Years Day to dezombify myself. I don’t own much makeup and the makeup I do own is like seriously 8 or 9 years old.

I don’t even really know how to “put on makeup” lol. I don’t want to wear gobs and gobs I just don’t want to look like I am about to go feast on some brains. I don’t even know if my 8 or 9 year old makeup is still in working condition or not. It’s probably toxic and should be covered in Mr. Yuk Stickers! I terribly need a makeover! I am interested in organic skincare. I think that might be better for my skin if their was not all those extra toxins.  I have become more aware of organic things since I had Noah and started blogging.

Next I will discuss my hair or should I say my zombie locks! It’s like frizzy, yet straight. It tangles really easily and really badly. I cut it myself a couple weeks ago cause I got sick of pulling my hair when I would try and get the tangles out. I have broken bristles off my hair brush because my hair is such a mess. It still tangles but at least now it isn’t long tangles!

I love to be comfortable because I spend a lot of time at home. I love to wear pajama pants. I have two pairs of jeans that are both ripped and are so big they fall off of me when I walk. It would be great if I was a gangsta girl, but I am a mommy. I have some cute shirts and cute pajamas but my pants that I wear out are like fleece pants. It’s really sad. I have not wore shorts in like 4 years. It could be 103 degrees and I will be wearing jeans. I have some funky funky clothes! I don’t like wearing them cause I look so frumpy and dumpy. Maybe even like Humpty Dumpty!

I have never been to a spa. I have never stepped foot in one. The most professional massage I have ever had was at the county fair where the chiropractors give you free ones. Then call and harass you for months to come in. Even though you were told a while back by a chiropractor that you have a beautiful spine. I trust him. He works with the Colts I think he knows what he is doing! I have gotten a water massage at the mall a few times. Those are really cool. Especially when they have you watch a TV and listen to the music. It has been a while though.

I have never had a professional pedicure. I had a manicure a few times. That was cool but that was definitely my pre-mommy days. I can only dream of what a spa has to offer. It’s like the episode of Fraiser where they go to that new spa and each door leads to a better room until they end up outside by the dumpsters. Someday, maybe I will go to a spa. I know lots of people go on spa days. I bet it is wonderful!

So, my goal for 2010 is to dezombify myself. If anyone wants to help me on this mission please contact me.
